OK this might seem a little scattered but i'll try to make it make sense.
I believe that there are some people out there that we know that have been to the island before. My guess although it might seem strange is that this is the crew to the black rock ship. The first I will point out is Richard, we have seen before that he hasn't aged, I believe this is because he chose to stay on the island (which also ties in with the island being frozen in time theory), I believe the others that survived the ships reckage eventually got off the island but not until quite sometime after the crash.
Now I believe that these crew members through the powers of the island (somewhat like Desmond's flashes) know about something that is going to happen that will put the world at great risk, therefor know what has to be done to prevent this. I think that is why the crew of 815 as well as desmond and Ben have been put on this island. If you look back alot of the same people have influenced some of them to get to where they are. First The psychic Claire visits he insists that is has to be that exact flight that she takes, he also in a way set the events in motion that would lead to eko getting on that plain.
Christian Sheppard has had contact with Jack, Claire and Anna Lucia and although he didn't have anything that we know of to do with claire being on the plane he did influence Anna and jack to be on that plane.
The guy named Hibbs that gave sawyer a false tip that they knew where the real "tom saywer" was conveniently enough in Australia.
I believe the Monk desmond stays with is also involved in this, he keeps insisting that Desmond will have a "greater calling" and ironically enough fires him at just the right moment so that he will meet penny. I also believe that the lady in jewelery store in "flashes before your eyes" is one of the crew members, she seems to know exactly what Desmond is supposed to do in order to make it to the island.
I also believe Widmore was on the ship, as he refers to it as his island when talking to ben and makes in sound like he has been there before. Also stating that everything ben has he took from him (maybe the relationship with Jacob)
If you think about it most of these people I have mentioned are approximately the same age, which if the stayed on the island (being unaged) for a while and then somehow getting off (therefor aging again) would make sense. Widmore would be the oldest I'm sure and I also believe besides Hanso who is believed to be the captain, Widmore was next in line. I dont think Widmore wanted to leave the island and was forced, or maybe he's like future Jack and now knows he was not meant to leave.
Also although it may seem doubtful I believe Libby was also part of the crew, we do not know much about her back story accept that she was the reason Desmond has a boat to get to the island and she was in the hospital with Hurley (I believe although she obviously didnt talk to him in there or he would have recognized her, I think she may have somehow had influence on him playing the numbers in the lottery when he got out) also she is the only main character that it remains unclear why she was in Australia and on the plane.

and also maybe:
Danielle? (I personally think shes lying she doesn't sound French and seems to be dressed almost in army gear)
Calvin? (Taught Sayid to torture and taught Desmond how to save the world via the button)
Horace? (seemingly was getting bens dad roger a good job only to use him as a janitor, was it possibly just a con to get his son Ben on the island. I know it sounds weird because Ben ends up killing Horace but maybe if it in turn is for a greater good Horace excepted it.)
