I have been developing a theory since lat week that Ben and Locke are half-brohters. Both have a mother named Emily. Lock was born in 1956 and his mother was very young (15 year old). He was abandoned at a young age and raised by foster parents. I assume he has no real memory of his actual parents.
I believe that the "Cooper" and "Emily" that he comes in contact with in later life are conning him. They are not his parents. I believe that they are working for Widmore or Ben to manipulate Locke.
Ben was born in the early 60s to a woman named Emily in the middle of the woods outside Portland. She looks fairly young, she could be the same Emily as Locke's mother now in her early 20s. She had Ben at 7 months. They find the Dharma people on the road and get in the car.
When I first saw the episode "The Man Behind The Curtain" I jumped to the conclusion that Emily died in child birth. On further review, this is clearly not certain. She passes out in the back of the car after asking that the baby be named Ben. Clearly, as a child Ben thinks she died giving birth to him, but he would not have had first hand memory of this. I think it is possible that she was killed by the Dharma people after they got her baby or she died in the process of them doing whatever they did to induce her labor.
How did those Dharma people just happen to be there to make the pickup on the side of the road. I know it was not a coincidence. They knew to be there to get Ben.
When Ben arrives on the island, the Dharma people are clearly excited to get a first look at their new guests. It is very clear that "Work Man" Roger is not the guy they are excited to see.
I think it is pretty clear that Emily is dead because she has appeared to Ben on the island (another reason to believe the "Emily" in Locke's current life is a fraud). Ben also knows something is not right about the story of her death. He asks his father " Do you really think it's my fault that she died." His father answers "What do I know?" and then Ben kills him. At this point Ben knew the truth, that is why be kills the man he knew to be his father.
I am not sure what the "majic" is about Ben and Locke with the Island, but I think tomorrow's episode will provide some clues. The relationship with the island clearly stems from their relation to their mother.
Is is possible that they are descendants of Jacob?
