you'd laugh in my face.....
....but i think i have.
Stay with me for a few paragraghs, because some may sound like nonsense, but it solves almost all the mythologies mysteries of LOST, in a realistic way.
CHAPTER 1
THE FANTASTIC 4
Jacob, Thomas Mittlewerk, Ms Hawking and Brother Campbell are universe correctors. They are a faction in themselves who correct errors in the universe, and nudge things into order if needed. Mittlewerk realised that the world was coming to an end via his equation of 4 8 15 16 23 42. They pondered over their options. They knew they had to save the world, but how? They knew one thing, the only place the world could be saved, was the island.It had special powers. So they sent Jacob to watch over it.
CHAPTER 2
BEN, YOUR NOT THE CHOSEN ONE
Well they know everything about the universe, if they didn’t, they wouldn’t know how to correct the course of events, and they know that Widmore is the only man who can use his resources to save the world. It can be no one else, only Charles Widmore. He is the main character in the overall arc of the universe, and everyone around him are mechanical pieces working to make his path (of saving the world) a reality.
CHAPTER 3
MITTLEWERKS MISTAKE?
So, Mittlewerk spoke to Gerald and Karen Degroot, two of the potentially cleverest scientists in the world. He told them with enough resources, they could help save the world. They agreed to help. Mittlewerk advised them to go to Widmore for the money. The Degroots went, but there was a peculiar error in the universe, Widmore declined their offer. Maybe Mittlewerk should have let the universe do this, maybe in some small way Mittlewerk affected something small in the big scheme of things to come. Widmore said to the Degroots ‘My friend Alvar Hanso has money, you may have better luck with him’.
So the Degroots went to Alvar Hanso. He accepted their offer and gave them money to create the Dharma Initiative. The Degroots began their projects, but Hawking, Campbell and Mittlewerk knew this was a waste of time without Widmore’s influences.
CHAPTER 4
DESMOND : THE MERE PAWN IN THE UNIVERSE
Hawking and Campbell messed with destiny again by paying Widmore a visit. They decided to use Desmond as a mere pawn in their work and told Widmore to ensure Desmond does NOT begin a relationship with Penny AFTER he gets out of jail. They told Widmore to ensure he (DES) KNOWS about the sole race around the world. Hawking would take care of the rest. Widmore asks why he can allow Desmond to be with Penny BEFORE he goes to jail, Hawking says ‘because Desmond needs motivation to get on the boat for your race, and Penny is his motivation, so at some point he must be with her, but that point must be before he is in jail’.
CHAPTER 5
LIBBYS MOTIVATION
This isnt me going off topic, this is very important to the theory.
So lets side track, Libby’s husband David (Dave, Hurleys friend) died on the deck collapse. It was Hurleys fault, that’s why he is plagued by Daves appearances. Libby couldn’t cope with this pressure of losing her husband, so she went into a mental institute. Coincidentally, the same as Hurley.
Libby worked up her mental health and just as things were getting normal, Hawking appeared and told her if she gives a man named Desmond Daves boat, Hawking will make sure Libby one day, meets the man responsible for Daves death. (Which is Hurley on the island). Libby agrees to this.

BEN'S MISINTERPRETATION
Anyway, Jacob (because he's watching over the island) appeared to Ben (as a child) and told him that Dharma were trying to save the world, but were not helping, in fact they were making things worse, they were occupying an island that some one else should be working on. Ben took this information to mean the island is where the Others should be solely working on, but really Jacob meant the island is where Widmore should ben working on. Ben was given orders to murder everyone related to Dharma. Jacob did this so no one would get in Widmores way eventually.
Ben did this, but kept Alvar Hanso alive. Hanso realised that the others were going to have a better chance at saving the world than Dharma. Hanso gave Ben all his money (hence why Ben has so much money to use).

WIDMORE RELAISES HIS MISTAKE
So Widmore and Hanso were good friends. Hanso told Widmore everything about Dharma and the island, and Widmore was fascinated. Later on, Hanso told Widmore The Dharma Initiative was over, and The Others (Mittleos Bioscience) were stronger and more capable (than Dharma) of saving the world. This is why Hanso was now financially backing Mittleos (The Others). Widmore demanded to buy Mittleos (coincidentally named after Mittlewerk?) Bioscience from Alvar, but Hanso rejected. Widmore beat Hanso up and put him in hospital. (Many people speculated Hanso was the man in the hospital bed next to Michael’s bed in Meet Kevin Johnson, re watch it, the man and hanso look VERY similar.)
Thus Widmore began to search for the island with co-ordinates he found from Desmond crashing there.
CHAPTER 8
CONCLUSION
So Overall,
Ben believes he is the chosen one, because of the mis-interpretation of Jacobs earlier message. Jacob wants Ben gone, so Ben holds him hostage (the ring around the cabin). This makes Ben the badder of the two (Ben and Widmore)
Overall widmore and ben BOTH want to save the world by working on the island, but for different reasons. Ben, because he wants to have the glory, Widmore, because he now understands that it is his destiney.
So what do you think? Its very possible in my opinion. Its not all guesswork, but basically it all comes down to Fate and Destiny (of widmore being the chosen one) and greed (of bens selfish desires)
Our surivors of oceanic 815 are like desmond, mere pawns in this big epic. Widmore faked the plane crash to ensure he and he only found the island, so he could save the world. This is why i believe widmore MUST save the world, he must get to that island. Ben is blocking him from doing this, and ben needs to leave.
