This is one of the only theories that, while seeming crazy and far-fetched, which it is, seems quite plausible at the same time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hollow Earth Theory for those who are not familiar with it:
"A "hollow Earth" theory posits that the planet Earth has a hollow interior and probably a habitable inner surface. Although at one time adventure literature made this idea popular, the notion now receives little support; substantial geodetic evidence has long controverted it and the scientific community dismisses it as pseudoscience."
Hollow Earth basically would account for most of whats happening on the Island, but not all.
They say that the entrances to the "Inner Earth" are at both poles, and few other locations, such as nepal, peru and a couple of other remote access points... Where was Penelope's station based at the end of season 2? The Arctic? Someplace cold anyway.
Thing which lend a helping hand to inner earth theory are:
- Precise co-ordinates from Ben to get out of the Island indicates an entrance to Hollow Earth. This includes the turbulence experienced when traveling to and from the island and, recently, the delay of the payload missile launched from the Freighter and the reason Desmond couldn't get off the island (I believe he described it as a snowglobe).
- Polar Bears - not too far from its habitat if the entrance is indeed at one of the poles.
- The comic book had a big city like world sticking out from the north pole, which could potentially be hinting that there is civilization at the poles that we dont know about yet.
- Rosseaus team, where on a scientific voyage werent they? possibly an Arctic expedition to learn more about the pole.
take a look at the hollow earth pages on wikipedia. It goes into great detail about advanced races and civilizations (four-toes statue?).

and to all you naysayers out there...think about one name before you jump to any conclusions. Jules Verne. His book THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND greatly influenced many aspects of Lost, and this is also the guy who wrote JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. A book about an underground ocean and coast that is quite habitable. Now, I don't usually get involved in all this Lost-theory stuff, but this seems to me like a very plausible answer...to at least some of our questions. What are your thoughts?
