In the season 3 episode, “The Man Behind the Curtain”, John Locke meets Jacob for the first time and is able to hear Jacob’s cry for help - Ben is upset by this incident believing that Locke may be a threat to his own power… So who exactly is Jacob, and why does Locke seem to have a connection with Jacob and his cabin?
I have been mulling over this theory for some time now. I posted my thoughts last summer in a separate forum, and for whatever reason, I still believe that the reason why Locke and Jacob have a connection is because they are the same person. In season 3, we learn about similarities between these 2 characters, e.g., they both shun technology, and have a deep connection with the island.. Ben also seems to view Jacob as this wiseman or “GOD”. While Locke is not a GOD, he too is very intuitive and wise.
In “The Man Behind the Curtain” episode, Locke can hear Jacob’s cry for help - his exact words are “Help Me.” I believe that Jacob somehow knows that outsiders (Naomis’ team) will be coming to the island - as we know is the case in Season 4, and is trying to warn Locke about a disruption in the coming weeks… But how does Jacob know this to be true?
I stated in a previous posting, that while most people would be rescued from this island that John Locke would manage to stay behind. This we have learned is true. I also believe the island has access to a time portal (maybe relating to the island’s magnetic anomalies), which Locke has discovered. I believe that Locke becomes Jacob in season 4 after the Oceanic 6 are rescued, and is communicating with the past, as seen in the season 3 episode “the man behind the curtain” when Locke can hear Jacob…
So to reiterate, when Locke hears Jacob’s cry for help, Jacob is trying to warn himself of what will occur if he doesn’t change the sequence of events leading to Charlie flipping the switch, and allowing Naomi’s team to make contact with the island…However, as we all know, Jacob’s first attempt to communicate with Locke was a failure. My predictions for either season 4 or latter seasons is that we will learn that Jacob and Locke are the same person, we will see many flash backs of the LOsties and the Others in season 3, and Locke/Jacob will continue travelling back in time until he is successful in warning himself or others about Naomi’s “rescue mission”, thus preventing Charlie’s death - this is possibly why Hugo is able to see Charlie in the latest episodes - because in an alternate future, Charlie is not actually dead….
