My theory was inspired from Winston Smith's Theory which i liked very much, and that explained a lot about the island.
That's my explanation of the flash-forward and the rest.
I personally don't think Jack's father was alive in the flash-forward.
I'm sure he was just saying this because he was drunk.
Maybe there are only two dimensions at the beginning:
1] Flight 815 crashed in the pacific and the government found it. (Naomi would obviously come from that dimension)
2] Flight 815 crashed on the island and the government never found it and stopped the research. (All flashback we see from season 1 to 3 would come from that dimension)
Maybe the Swan incident merged the 2 dimensions together and the deactivation of "the looking glass" allowed the island to be found in that new "merged dimension".
So my idea would be the "flash-forward" comes from a final dimension where the plane was found but everybody died after the crash.
And the 815ers from the 2nd dimension managed to get out of the island to join back that final dimension (At least Jack and Kate did).
But the Dharma people still want to keep all that a secret due to their implication, so they forced Jack and Kate to lie about what happened and they managed to reactivate "the looking glass" by taking back the island over the others (since there isn't much left of them).
I guess Dharma as power over "Oceanic Airline" and they forced them to offer free passes for Jack and Kate to fly anywhere to apologize for stopping the research and bribe them to shut up for the several months they both had to survive on the island.
Since jack doesn't seem to be hiding, (showing up at the hospital and people knowing him) I guess Dharma forced "Oceanic Airline" to announce officially that he survived the crashed after all and it wasn't his body that they found.
As for Kate, maybe her "criminal past" was too complicated for Dharma to erase. So to keep her quiet they offered her a new life with a new name and all. That's why she wouldn't go for Jack's plan to go back on the island.
As for Jack wanting to go back so badly, he obviously doesn't fit in that dimension where his life keep getting worst and worst, maybe he as remorse about people that could have stayed on the island. He thinks he can fix things and take over Dharma in order to fix what happened.
That's why he wants to get back to the island to change things and try to fix the dimension he's stuck in.
As for the coffin maybe it's an other 815er who also left the island with them. Jack went to his funeral, but Kate didn't, since she wants to stick with her current new life and doesn't want to deal with any of this, otherwise she would take risk and have to become a fugitive again.
That would be my explanation of the fast forward basing from your dimension theory :)
