Just found the site. Some very interesting theories. This is my theory.
The island I agree is a testing ground. I believe that the island has an imbalanced electromagnetic field, which is why when Sayid tries to read the compass North seems to shift, and that is why when Desmond tried to leave the island by boat he came back because the field distorted the compass readings. I agree that if electromagnetic fields can be distorted, time can be manipulated.
In Season 1 when Sayid found the French woman's voice on the radio, he was listening to the past. Radio waves, distorted by electromagnetic radiation can seem to travel at different speeds to light, appearing to come before or after the communication. Light, when distorted by electromagnetic radiation can also travel at different speeds. If you see something as it happens its because you are traveling with light. However, if you see something before it happens you are traveling at a different speed to light. Because the island is a giant electromagnetic cell, it would not seem uncommon that fluctuations in emission would cause things like hallucinations or the ability to communicate with the island. Long term exposure to electromagnetic radiation can effect the environment, embedding soil, plants and even the air with electromagnetic particles.
I believe the visions and whispers are partly caused by the particles manipulated by the island. My electromagnetic theory is supported by the hatch and incidentally Desmond. The hatch is a control console for the electromagnetic field. When Locke did not push the button, it opened an electromagnetic tear. Exposure to the tear would result in lost time, where the recipient has no knowledge of what happened to them within a time space, and being able to see through traveling light, which is how Locke located Eko and how Desmond foresaw the lightning storm and protected the baby (Season 3). The tear also exposed the island to satellite radar, which is the anomaly found at the end of Season 2. Desmond, I believe, is the new seer.
The electromagnetic theory, I believe, explains how LOST will culminate. When Desmond did not put in the numbers it brought down Flight 815, because the electromagnetic tear distorted with the plane's navigational equipment and pulled the plane into an electromagnetic storm. At the end of Season 2 the button was not pushed which I believe will bring something else to the island, possibly the search party after Desmond. The Others will hijack the search party, will capture them and bring them back and try trick them into staying and trying to leave the island on their vessel. Desmond will see this before it happens and try to stop the others.
Hurley, in alliance with Desmond (Hurley will start to see things differently as well) will lead a revolt against the others. With the ability of hindsight, Desmond will be able to infiltrate the others but will be faced with the dilemma of who to save: Kate or his love, when Ben makes a last stand. Tragically, one of the women will die. The others have a fail safe switch to control the cell. Sayid will disable the fail safe. The button will not be pushed. The tear will open, engulfing the island and bending time completely, starting everything full circle. Everyone will go back to the moment before they boarded the plane, have deja vu, know the faces but not know the people. Its a long shot, but its where I think the series will end.
