There are many references in literature as to what Opus Moderni is, but there are no clear answers.
It is my Pandora's Box. It was a place that I could allow my imagination to run rampant, and in many ways still can. You see, I think that we all believe in certain things. Perhaps it is how we believe them that is different, but none of those beliefs are less profound. In a way it is a belief (leap of faith) to imagine that which the eyes can not see. It allows us to use our minds to act out different scenarios. We were all writers of lost with our crazy theories. Here are a few more theories that I think still support the epic tale.
Vincent- The lost creators said that Vincent does not die (well at least on the show). He is with Jack in the end so Jack doesn't have to die alone. A very poetic ending.
MIB- I think that the reason for not giving us a name is because evil is talked about on the show but it is never defined. The show references a book called "The Turn of the Screw" this too is a tale that has a very opaque definition of evil. Also, each and every character has a story line that would not make the majority of people consider them to be saints. Although the show is heavily rooted in theology, and some that differ in their interpretation of good and evil.
Taweret- I think that Jacob had it made. His own little loop hole in the rules. If you carried around an Ankh you would be able to have children on the island. I think that Taweret had a lot to do with the creation of the smoke monster. There is a picture of Taweret with its hand up keeping the monster at bay. This was in the episode that Ben went into the tunnel to be judged and saw his dead daughter.
The light-The light is life and death. Its power is not timeless nor is it certain. We have seen that it can go out, and that is why someone needs to protect it. We all have a capacity for great things good and bad. In the end most things that happen in our lives exist somewhere in between. In the end we begin to see that power (what every man has and wants more) is not something you can attain. The power of the light is living life, and when our characters see that then they will see the light again. This time it is enough to just have what they need. Which was all they really needed all along. Even Jacob and his brother.
Last but not least!
Science vs. Faith- I don't think that these concepts are as different as one might think. Through out time both fate and science have booth have succumb to certain aspects of the other. Fate does not have the monopoly on the mysteries of life that it thinks it does. On its basic level life moves faster than any real scientist can analyze it, and that mystifies the most brilliant mind. Faith, that omnipresent force that in many ways functions just like science. You see science is a function of what we can physically see and faith is a function of what we cant. Many times even not even that is clear. Pun intended!!
I speculated about this in a previous theory, but I say it now with more confidence. If you want to understand Lost you should read Dr. Seuss' book "Oh the Places You'll Go". My favorite lines in the entire book are.
"I’m afraid that some times you’ll play lonely games too. Games you can’t win ‘cause you’ll play against you.
"All Alone!
Whether you like it or not, Alone will be something you’ll be quite a lot....
You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left."
Lost you are truly great!!!!
Walk in balance my friends.
