Whispers are the other candidates by MrEko

So, when we were told by Micheal in Hurley's episode that the whispers are pretty much the ghosts of people who couldn't move on, the first thing I thought was "Who all is stuck in this sort of (and I hate to use the word purgatory) purgatory state on the island?" and "Why can't they move on?"

What I think is that these ghosts are the other candidates who have died, but they can't move on because whatever is going on with Jacob and the MiB hasn't been resolved yet. I get the feeling that there is a whole bigger picture to the whole candidate idea, which we'll probably get more info about in the next episode.
