LOST Theories - DarkUFO

Tale of Two Realities by Khensu

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.” Dickens

There are no happy endings in the sideways reality. Think about all the Island positives and plusses:

Ben
Power and purpose on the island. A redemptive tragic hero.

Locke
Could walk on the island. Found meaning and purpose. Yeah, although he's presently dead there, we shouldn’t discount some resurrection.

Charlie
Content with his death. Love found. Purpose found.

Kate
Is a good (adopted) mom. Acquitted of the murder charges.

Sawyer
Sought and found revenge for his parent’s death. Didn’t lie or hide this fact. Ultimately found redemption. Found his soul mate in Juliet. Was content to stay in paradise with her forever.

Jack
Found purpose. Found peace. Found out that his father was truly proud of him.

Sayid
Reunited with Nadia, although only briefly; it’s still better to have loved and lost. He cannot run from his true nature in either reality. But at least on island, he's currently feeling no emotion; which is helping him cope with the loss of Nadia and his killer ways.

Rose
Cured of cancer.

Desmond
With Penny, child and purpose.

Charles
A dream come true; a return to the Island – to ensure things are fixed.

Jin and Sun
Overcame marital problems as a result of the Island influence. They conceived a child. And they will likely reunite.

Then we have the sideways’ reality:

Ben
Unfulfilled and in a dead-end job.

Locke
Unfulfilled and in a dead-end job.

Charlie
Unfulfilled and a junkie. Empty of love.

Kate
Will likely be charged for assaulting a cop, escaping custody, stealing a cab, reckless endangerment, and... murder.

Sawyer
Living a lie; being a cop with one purpose to commit murder. Empty of love.

Jack
No resolution on how his father really felt about him. Now he's got the added pressure and living in fear of someday turning his own son against him. Sure, he's still a doctor and saving/helping lives, but… the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.

Sayid
Cannot run from his true nature. And here, he can’t even be with Nadia.

Rose
Terminal cancer.

Desmond
A drone or corporate life. Empty of love.

Charles
Money and power. But there’s more to life.

Jin and Sun
Sun will likely die of a gun-shot wound to the abdomen. Jin is a targeted man.

Ah... and then there's Mrs. Widmore (nee Hawking). What power does she hold? Some kind of independent overseer of everything? Could she be aware of the other reality? Is her protecting the sideways reality merely a result of her feelings of remorse over shooting Daniel in the 70s? Now she’s hell-bent on doing everything to avoid that repeat of history? But how could she worry about history repeating itself if there's currently no donkey wheel to turn to start time travelling and sending her son back to the 70's where she’d shoot him again? Ah, but perhaps the Lamp Post still exists since it was likely created prior to 1977 (if we assume another continuity between the two realities).

Whoa... brain hurting… nose bleeding... room spinning.

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known." Dickens
