I was anti "Locke has always been MIB" when I first saw this theory too. But the more you think about it, the more possible it is.
Jacob says to MIB "you've found your loophole".
MIB responds, "You have no idea what I had to go through to be here."
What MIB had to go through wasn't as simple as taking over Locke's dead body and getting into the base of the Statue. MIB might have been responsible for Emily Locke's claim that John was immaculately conceived. If if was revealed that Locke was MIB for the last 50 years, from birth, it would be a reveal that would make us all go re watch the entire series. If MIB had to endure Locke's entire miserable life, that seems more like a lot to go through to get to this loophole. I don't think he his literally MIB, just like Jesus isn't literally GOD. He is a form of God, a human bein with God imprinted on his DNA. Locke is a human with MIB imprinted on his DNA. Also, Emily tells John, "You are special. You are part of a design, but you already know that".
18 year old Emily Locke is asked by her mother is she is gonig out on a date with "him" again, and states he's twice her age. Could "him" be MIB in some form or another?
Again, this sounded absurd to me, NO WAY "dead" Locke was playing everyone the whole time, form episode 1 of season 1. Even Sawyer points out that this is a different John Locke than before. But stick with me here for a minute..
I think much like Peter Pan, the longer Locke was away from the island the more he became not in touch with who he really is.
1. When he was around 5 years old, he gets a visit from Richard. Locke is asked to choose which items "are already his".. He picks 2/3 correct. He also has a cute picture of a body being either transformed into or taken over by THE SMOKE MONSTER. Locke has a good clue of his past and who he "really is".
2. In high school, he gets an offer to go to "science camp". He turns it down. He has become obsessed with being popular, prom king, an athlete, etc... Really subconsciously losing focus on who he really is and what he is destined to do.
3. Finally, we see him a shell of a man, paralyzed, in the hospital. Now in his upper 40's maybe even 50 years old. A miserable life lived. Lonely, depressed, betrayed, and almost 100% off track of who he "really is"(MIB in some form).
Season 4 Episode 11. Locke being pushed around in his wheelchair by Abbadon. Abbadon tells Locke he needs to go on a walkabout...
Locke says "In case you haven't noticed, I'm a cripple"
Abbadon: "Is that what you are Mr Locke?"
The two exchange a weird look, and Locke has a weird look on his face.
Abbadon: "I went on my walkabout convinced I was one thing, and came back another"
"I found out what I was made of, Who I was..."
Abbadon is pushing Locke to the island to realize who he really is.
A few more interesting things...
1. Locke's mother was 6 months pregnant, and she was hit by a car. Locke was born 3 months early after trauma in the hit and run. He survived. The nurses called him "miracle baby".. why?
He was the youngest pre mature to survive at that hospital. He fought off infections, pneumonia, and more. They said anything wrong with him, his body seemed to just wipe it out.
2. Locke fell 8 stories to the ground.... miracle? Or is he not 100% human..
3. Did he also survive a plane crash?? Lucky guy..
4. Did Ben shoot him from 3 feet away and leave him for dead? Survived! This guy is a machine!
5. This one might be the weirdest... Anyone realize that after 100+ days on the island that John Locke ALWAYS has a completely shaved head??? Not even a little stubble every showing? Jack, Hurley, Sawyer, Sayid.. all of their hair is much longer in seasons 2-3-4 than it was in season 1. Locke's doesn't grow. I don't know how that applies, but its weird. Maybe he just has a razor and shaving cream that we dont know about.
Anyway...
Once Locke wakes up on the beach after the crash, it's not that he instantly remembers everything about the island. Again, like Peter Pan, he's slowly remembering things. Also, it looks like MIB is guiding him along.
It's not a coincidence that:
1. He can all of a sudden walk.
2. He can hunt with a knife, track people, and has crazy survival instincts. Good for a guy who was a nerd in school, and then worked at a box factory.
3. That "the island" tells him what to do. No one else though...
4. He knows his way around the island.
5. He finds the hatch
6. He finds Yemi's plane.
7. That he thinks he's here for a reason..
The list goes on and on.
Another cool part is when Locke and Boone are trying to break into the hatch. Locke's contraption doesn't work. He is screaming and stomping, yelling THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO WORK!. Boone points out to Locke that a piece of the broken contraption stabbed Locke's leg. A bad looking wound. Locke didn't even feel it. He pulled it out of his leg, and looks at the blood dripping with an interested look.
MIB continues guiding Locke. The hatch implosion, blowing up Mikhail's station, Blowing up the SUB.
Just like Jacob and MIB, Locke is unable to kill anyone. He indirectly does, but never Kills anyone on his own. He convinces Sawyer to Kill Anthony Cooper. Locke must play by the rules. He is MIB. He also indirectly kills Boone. He peaks Boone's interest in Yemi's plane, then Locke's leg's conveniently stop working. He tells Boone to climb up and take a look, and Boone falls and is fatally wounded. Then Lock's leg's are back working again.
Why else would Locke be the only one NOT interested in getting off the island? Because he can't, not until Jacob's dead. No interest in being rescued. His obsession is the others, and finding answers. And most importantly, he's ObSESSED with Jacob, and finding him. His goal is to infiltrate, he goes with the others every chance he can. Obviously his ultimate goal is to find Jacob. When he sees the plan isn't working, and he'll never get to see Jacob, he sets up plan B.
Plan B is to time travel. Set up all of the things we've seen that were MIB's plan. Convinces everyone including Richard he's "special" when he sees them in the 1950's. He even tells Richard to instruct him to "die". The rest is history. He comes back, and this "new John Locke" is viewed as something very special. Even Richard is blown away. He then goes right to Jacob. Cons Ben into doing the dirty-work. Loophole Found.
