I'm more convinced than ever that the WOOL (four letter word without a or e) that's always nearly about to be removed from our eyes on our favorite show is what the show is actually about. Perhaps we (fellow theorists) are participating in or playing a game unbeknownst to us. You would think that by now someone would have come up with a total theory that made perfect sense and was elegant. I think what has happened is that we have. Often, after nearly every episode. The show itself becomes a moving target, staying just one step ahead of the audience by designing the show for us, based on our reactions. (Kind of like Jacob controlling the candidates lives without them even knowing it)
I know the producers said they were NOT making it up as they went along, but they also said no time travel. They weren't lying about either. The SHOW is about what we want it to become, nothing more, nothing less. If time-travel is demanded, so be it.
The death of Jacob signaled that the final plot arc's were in the can. No more moving target. The only thing the producers can toss in now are hints as to who is guessing correctly. This is the end game.
Let me give you a specific example. For no reason out of the blue the undiscussed, forgotten, buried and uninteresting topic of Shannon's inhaler... an unresolved plothole NOBODY cared about, was suddenly and succinctly resolved for no apparent purpose. Why? Because the theorist that mentioned it (me) was on to something.

While the above is a very confusing ramble, it describes a process of creating a magic 8 ball or pandora's box via the accepted rules of time travel. Since all time plays out at the same time in 4 dimensions, the minor acts that change time will appear as nothing more than course correction to those not capable of appreciating an extra-dimensional point of view (us). And as a consequence to those rules, you can request and receive future information from yourself if you've first setup a temporal delivery mechanism.
This brings us back to Shannon's asthma meds...
Why now? Why solve that "mystery?" For the same reason that Lost will break the 4th wall by the end of the season. Because the WOOL over our eyes this whole time is that the show has been fan driven since day one. Lost is a recursive metaphor about watching Lost is a recursive metaphor about watching Lost is a recursive metaphor about watching Lost is a recursive metaphor about watching Lost is a recursive metaphor about watching Lost is a recursive metaphor about watching Lost is a recursive metaphor about watching....
