LOST Theories - DarkUFO

There are many theories that say Jughead exploded and caused the ringing in the ears of the Losties who traveled back to the future upon it's apparent detonation. Aside from Jin describing a similar feeling when he experienced a time flash, I think there is another reason that this is not possible.

I'm not going to go into whether or not Jughead actually exploded, but rather just prove that the noise from Jughead detonating did not cause their ears to ring. I am not a physicist, so if anyone sees any errors in this please feel free to correct me.

Explosive velocity, or detonation velocity, is the speed at which the shockwave front passes through a detonated explosion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detonation_velocity

Even if our Losties (Juliet, at least) were standing next to mere TNT instead of an atom bomb, they could NOT have suffered hearing damage of any kind without being blasted to death. The reason for this is that the explosive velocity of an explosion of "high explosives" always travels faster than the speed of sound. If sound damaged the Losties hearing temporarily, it would not have been able to get to their ear canal before they were killed by the explosion.

It would really not even be close. The speed that sound waves travel at is 768 MPH, or 343 meters per second. The explosive velocity of TNT is 6,340 meters per second. I am not sure what the explosive velocity of an atomic bomb is – the best info on this I could find said it travels at about 400 kilometers per second which is over 1,000 times faster than the speed of sound.

Since the blast and fireball from the explosion are traveling faster than the sound that supposedly hurt the Losties ears, there doesn’t seem to be any possibility that the explosion affected hearing without killing them entirely.
