So I've been doing my best to remain patient while eager in awaiting the Season 6 premiere, but things are just too unsettled to wait 2 months to see how it plays out, so I figured I'd make an educated guess, and boggle your minds even more in the process.
It has been stated several times that the premise of Lost is based in large part to the computer game MYST.
In MYST, you play "the Stranger" who reads an unusual book and is transported to the island of MYST. In the book is a description of two additional books: one blue, one red, belonging to two brothers and containing messages from each that need to be decoded to identify which, if either, have good intentions and should be trusted. The two brothers' father, named Atrus, is a member of an ancient civilization which teaches "the Art" allowing him to create portals to other dimensions. As the stranger continues exploring the island, as well as different ages, he learns more about each brother, Atrus, and the ancient civilization. With multiple endings, the game shows that neither brother is to be trusted, and that only Atrus can complete the book and return to the island. You can read the rest and fill in the holes yourself.
I don't know about you but the plot of that game eerily reminds me of Lost. Two brothers, both have been seen and heard by at least some of the "strangers". And a mysterious "father" of the two brothers, just seems like something that could be right around the corner.
Now the game MYST was actually based upon "Mysterious Island" by Jules Verne, a sequel to 20,000 leagues under the sea, and follows much of the same premise.
Five strangers...mysterious island...mysterious happenings..unknown/unsolved occurences. In the end of that book, it is revealed that the hidden force on the island responsible for all these occurences is Captain Nemo of the Nautulus.
Five Americans on an uncharted island in the South Pacific. Northern prisoners of war decide to escape by the unusual means of hijacking a balloon. The mystery of the island seems to come from periodic and inexplicable dei ex machina: the unexplainable survival of Harding from his fall from the balloon, the mysterious rescue of his dog, Top, from a wild manatee, the presence of a box full of equipment. The group decides to use a freshly-built small ship(raft) to explore the nearby Tabor Island, where they find another lost survivor. Former crew of pirate ship arrives at the Island to use it as their hideout. After some fighting with the survivors, the pirate ship is mysteriously destroyed by an explosion, and the pirates themselves are found dead, apparently in combat, but with no visible wounds. The secret of the island is revealed when it turns out to be Captain Nemo's hideout, and home harbour of the Nautilus. The Nautilus sailed the oceans of the world until all its crew ! except Nemo had died. Now an old man with a beard, Nemo returned the Nautilus to its port under the Island. All along it was Captain Nemo who had been the savior of the heroes proviing them with the box of equipment and killed the pirates with an electric gun. Eventually, the island explodes in a volcanic eruption. The survivors, warned by Nemo, find themselves at sea on the last remaining boulder of the island that is above sea level. They are rescued by a ship who was informed by a message left on Tabor Island by Nemo.
If that doesn't get your mind freakin boggled, I don't know what will. It did for me anyway...crazy parallelism .
