As always, we have to have some deaths this season, but what's great about Season 6, is it's the one true season where literally anything could happen.
Jack & Kate weren't going to die up until now. Neither was Locke and it was highly unlikely that other characters like Hurley, Sawyer, or Ben would until the final season either.
But now we have the element of destiny, and we have to start wondering who is "destined" to die for the greater good, as Charlie did, only this time for all the marbles.
Jack - This is a tough one. It's easy to say that the Hero of the show will save everyone and live on happily ever after, but it's just as likely he'll become the self sacraficing hero as well. Jack's story relates to his father however, more than it does to any one character on the island. He was the chosen leader of all, consistantly rejected personal involvement, messed it up with Kate when he did have the chance, and now he seems bent on a higher purpose. Unless there is a massive twist that reunites him with Kate, it looks as though he doesn't have much left in the real world worth going back to, and that leaves his strongest connection to his father. That's where it's always been, and since his father is dead, it's more likely in my opinion that Jack follows him to the afterlife.
Locke - Wow, this one is hard. First of all he would have to actually come back to life. But we just spent nearly an entire season proving how it's impossible for that to happen. That leads me to believe that it will happen, and even more so as I can't imagine that the final season leaves "real" Locke completely on the sidelines. If he does revive, he wouldn't die again, and so either way Locke won't die yet again this season.
Sawyer - No. He's not dying. The love of his life is gone, but we saw very clearly that his feelings haven't dampened for Kate, leaving him a love interest, esspecially if Jack dies, and Sawyer more than anybody is the feel good story of the series. He's got a kid too, and Cassidy to make ammends to as an alternate relationship to Kate if necessary. I don't think that will happen, but the point is he has much too much to do to rectify his conman lifestyle in the real world to let him die on the island.
Hurley - Absolutely not. It'd be like killing one of the island babies. You don't kill the fun happy fat guy who is the feel good character of the show.
Sayid - Aside from the possibility that he may already be dead, yes he has a high likelyhood of dying. His whole character is surrounded by death, he's the type that would make a sacrafice, and he's the type you would feel good about as a viewer if he made that sacrafice. He hasn't been desperately important for some time, and his ultimate roll plays nicely with an ending death scene. Did I mention he may already be dead?
Ben - Geeeeeez, this ones tough. I don't think he will be. I have a strong feeling that he has been the good guy along, forced into a politically incorrect roll that forces everybody to look at him as a bastard, but in the end we'll see that he was merely doing what was necessary. He'll be redeemed, and that means he doesn't die.
Kate - Also doesn't die. We'll see her crying over Jack's dead body, if that comes to pass. I don't really know why I'd go against the logic I've used with other characters, because Kate really has nothing to do on the outside. She could take Claire to Aaron, but Claire could do that by herself should Kate die. But out 2nd leading Female, Juliet, has already died, and I just don't see Kate following her. There'd be too many fans cheering her death to give it the emotional impact the writers would obviously be gunning for in such a moment.
Desmond - No. He has a lovely wife and kid. No way he dies. He'll get back to the island, and he, Penny, and Charlie may forever stay on the island, but he won't die.
Alpert - I'm going to say Yes. He's immortal, which would make his death that much better, with the irony of a man who can't die, dying. Plus it would have to mean a lot to the story in that case and may even be the result of killing Jacob or the Man in Black. Somehow whatever was holding Richard in agelessness could be broken and he dies as a result. Anyway it would give us an iteresting different death if nothing else. I think this happens.
Man in Black - He absolutely dies. No way this doesn't happen whether he's revealed as good or not. In fact I'll say that Jacob, if he's in some way not dead right now, dies as well as I think what we're going to see is a generational story where certain characters replace the rolls that Jacob and the MIB occupied. Even if that doesn't happen, they'll end the reign of those two so as to create a new era for the island. MIB eats it for sure.
Sun & Jin - Absolutely no death here, esspecially now that Jin has already survived certain death over a seasonal break. They have to return home as a couple to raise their child, and they're one of the major feel good couples of the show. No way there's a death here.
Everybody else? - Well that's a hit or miss. Miles could die, Frank probably won't. Illana & Bram certainly could. Walt won't and none of the kids will, although I'd bet you real money that they'll all play important roles. I think we may actually see Widmore die. A: he's old, and B: he's a prick. I don't think his wife will though.
Did I miss anybody, do you have thoughts?
