It occured to me that, as awesome as LOST is, it does follow the same format as other books/movies/TV shows in regards to its twists. For example, I'm sure that Jacob and MIB aren't actually gods just because that's the conclusion that everyone has drawn from them. I REALLY hope they aren't aliens or robots, I'd be okay with them being from the future, but I know that it can't be as easy as it appears from the beginning of "The Incident."
Now why does Richard Alpert have to be evil you may ask? Because he's the only good character. Think about it. Richard has never gotten mad at anyone, never exploded with anger (even when Farraday had a gun on him!), and I've never heard of any Lost fans that just hate Richard. People hate Jack, Kate, Ben, Locke, but never Richard. Everyone wants to know more about Richard, because it looks like he knows everything.
A previous theory on here had a really good point about how everyone on the Island gets along with Richard. I think the theory was called "Our Mutual Friend". DHARMA, Others, Losties, everyone seems to get along with Richard. Everyone seems to trust him. Which is why his betrayal will be one of the biggest shockers of Season 6.
I keep picturing a scene where the group is about to accomplish something really important, maybe they're getting into the Temple, when Richard suddenly pulls a Michael on us and kills a few characters (only this time it won't be cannon fodder like Ana Lucia and Libby, it'll be the big namers: maybe Kate or Sayid). Part of me hopes this theory of mine is wrong, and that Richard is really just a good guy who gets along with everyone. Maybe in the real world, but this is fiction, and in fiction, it's the one you least expect that's a traitor.
