So I just saw the photo of the model of the statue that Dark posted in the forums. For anyone who hasnt seen it, here's the link:

In the topic, Khaman and BookhouseBoy discuss how the statue has no distinguishing female features, and they both agreed it was definitely Sobek, not Tawaret. I've always agreed with this myself, here's some evidence as to why:
1. Looking at the photo of the model, we see it doesnt have breasts, or any distinguishing female features. It looks pretty masculine, so it is a male God.
2. After checking out Sobek on Wikipedia, I found some very interesting correlations with our friend Jacob who just so happens to live in the statue:
Here's an interesting paragraph:
"Sobek's ambiguous nature led some Egyptians to believe that he was a repairer of evil that had been done, rather than a force for good in itself, for example, going to Duat to restore damage done to the dead as a result of their form of death. He was also said to call on suitable gods and goddesses required for protecting people in situation, effectively having a more distant role, nudging things along, rather than taking an active part."
Repairer of Evil?
Called on those suitable to protect others? (Perhaps touching them, bringing them to the Island?)
Nudging things along? ("Guess it just needed a little push")
Sounds like Jacob to me, not taking an active part in events, just nudging things along towards the proper conclusion.
More intersting stuff:
"He was also shown with an ankh, representing his ability to undo evil and so cure ills."
We saw the statue holding an ankh in LaFleur & The Incident, and Jacob's abuility to cure people has been well documented (Juliet's sister Rachel's cancer, seemingly brining Locke back from the dead after Cooper pushed him out the window, seen in The Incident flashbacks)
But enough of Wiki hearsay! The statue we saw in The Incident looks the exact same as the model we see in the pic mentioned above. I don't think it's Tawaret because, as well as that would tie in with the pregnancy issues, the statue looks nothing like Tawaret, and why would Jacob live in a statue of a fertility goddess? He shares quite a lot of similarities with Sobek, and if you look at the pic of the statue and the rendering of Sobek on it's Wiki entry, they look real similar.
I much prefer the idea of the radiation from Jughead causing the pregnancy issues, it would certainly help Juliet's character come full circle. Imagine the horrible irony if she caused the very problem she was brought to the island to fix, only to end up back in time starting the problem in the first place? sounds like somethinjg that could happen to Juliet, that poor girl just can't catch a break!
So that's my 2 cents on the statue situation. I believe it's Sobek becasue of the striking similarities bewteen Jacob and Sobek's function, and the fact that the Statue is clearly a male deity, and looks like Sobek more than Tawaret. I think ABC have come out and said the statue is Tawaret, so I could well be wrong, but until I hear someone on the show look at the full undamaged statue and say "Oh that's......, the Egyptian God" I'll stick with Sobek, it's just a better fit.
Yhanks for reading, please leave comments/thoughts/criticisms/suggestions!!
