My first post on a great site! Thanks to you all for helping to fill in the time between seasons.
I think that the question Ilana has been asking is really important as far as season 6 will go & we'll likely find out it's origins/meaning as the season goes on.
When I first thought about the question " Who lies in the shadow of the statue?", I thought, like many, that she was referring to Jacob, given that is where he has been living. However, when you examine the wording, I now think that this cryptic question refers to none other than our favourite corpse, John Locke.
The reason? He is, quite literally, 'lying' in the shadow of the statue - not standing or walking, but 'lying', as in 'lying down'.
If this is the case, then Richard's answer, "He who will save us all", really takes on a different meaning, as it means that Locke will be the Island's ultimate saviour & not Jacob.
I also hope this might raise more discussion about this question Ilana has been asking, as it could be important on a lot of different levels:
-Who told her to ask this question?;
-How does she know the correct answer;
-Why does she know to ask for Richard?;
In my opinion, the origins of this question & indeed the identity of 'He who will save us all" really hold the key to the end of the show.
No that we want to know that yet! Roll on season 6!
