• Things can be changed in the past as long as they don’t interfere with you being able to time travel in the first place. If one does make these kind of changes then a paradox ends
the world.
• Lost is like Pulp Fiction in the way the story is being told. We are not seeing it in the correct order.
• Course correction is a lie to manipulate Des into doing things a certain way.
• Mind time travel has advantages over physical time travel.
• Once one has mind time travelled one needs a constant.
• Once one has a constant, one needs to study variables.
• In each time line Dan is able to make a difference – he will be our saviour, hopefully!
• Most of series 1-5 WAS the reset.
“The timeline protection hypothesis posits that a time traveller would be incapable of causing a paradox, as the natural continuity of the timeline would cause any such interaction to fail. For example, he would appear in the wrong place (or fail to go anywhere at all), various twists of fate would conspire to impede him, or his actions would instead be responsible for the history he remembers. A similar theory states that time travel may in fact be a factor in making the universe the way it is today; actions of time travellers are responsible for the present situation. Alternatively, any time traveller would take the utmost care in avoiding such paradoxes, inspired by the fear of the damage they could cause.” Wikipedia
Lost is exploring what would happen if a paradox did occur. What would happen? Doc Brown said in Back To The Future II, that a paradox would, “cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe.” What if in doing so, time also reset to the start of time?
First of all I need to sum up what I’ve been saying in my previous theories:
The MIB and Jacob are Dharma scientists who have experimented on themselves. They have provided themselves with strange attributes that make them seem omnipotent. They seem to live outside of time. I think that they have quantum immortality but more to that later. In trying to undo what they did, that they instigated the end the world, they have resorted to going further and further back in time to try prevent the experiments from ever being conducted in the first place. The Purge wasn’t enough so they went back further in time to try to stop themselves from ever getting involved in Dharma in the first place. One change led to a different course of events in the time line, a different set of consequences that they didn’t predict. It reminds me of Anorax in Voyager’s 2 part episode, The Year of Hell. No matter what he did, he couldn’t undo the mess he’d made. The same has happened to these two Dharma scientists, they have affected other people and messed up the time! line because they have gotten so many other people involved in the mess, the Others and now our Losties. The thing was they were always going back in time as a person out of time, just like our Losties have done. I call this physical time travel whereas the time travel that Des did was mind time travel.
The island is like a giant time travel machine. Dharma have engulfed the island in EM to make it seem magical where amazing things can happen. Most of us agree in our theories that it seems like the MIB and/or the Jacob are influencing the lives of the Losties. I think they have been making all their hopes, fears and desires become reality by changing the past. Locke’s ability to walk, Rose’s cancer, Charlie’s drug addiction, Hurley’s fear from causing an accident which makes him see Dave. While they are on the island, they retain their memories of a previous time line but they benefit from the results of the changes in the past. The island is similar to when Voyager installed their temporal shields and became immune from the changes Anorax was subjecting the universe to. The people on the island still think they should not be able to walk, should have cancer, etc but they are cured. This is because the events which led them to be a certain way in one time have been ! changed as a result of another time line that has been created off island in the past. Proof that people retain their memories of past iterations is seen also when the failsafe is blown when time reset.
The island was not always this way. When Dharma first came to the island they were just experimenting with bunnies and using a small amount of EM but the experiments have progressed and gown exponentially. The fact that time travel is part of their experiments means that the experiments are on top of each other in time and means that trying to work out what happened is very difficult to see, understand and explain. Especially since on the surface it appears as if WHH. Like I say though WHH is only true for phycial time travel. More to mind travel later, I fear.
