Rewatching Lost from season one and this idea came to me right after The 23rd Psalm, but it relates to events from “Abandoned,” the Shannon-centric episode, and the season four finale, “There's No Place Like Home.”
In TNPLH Ben takes Locke to the Orchid. While very little information is given to us, Ben seems to know quite a bit about the Orchid. He knew how to blow a hole through the wall, he knew what was behind the wall, but above all he knew what to expect from the instruments in the Orchid station. I got the impression he had worked that machinery before. The meat of this theory is that at some point Ben used the Orchid to experiment on Walt, while he was in their possession, during the course of season 2.
After Ben turned the Frozen Donkey Wheel the system “skipped,” causing all sorts of problems for our losties... If Walt were moved through time by the Orchid, and he had a much more controlled skip, maybe his timeline was opposite the timeline we saw...
Walt first sees Shannon shot, he skips, then sees her in the woods... It is raining, and he warns her to be quiet. He is trying to warn her away from her doom. He skips again, an hour or two, instead of the years the other losties experienced....
And he sees Shannon in her tent. He is still dripping water from the rain and something about the time travel is causing his speech to run backwards... He skips again...
Back to the previous time Shannon saw him, still dripping wet from the rain right before Shannons future death.... Still speaking backwards from whatever the time travel disturbance was..
And whatever happened to manage to get him back to his own present. The Orchid works for time travel and Ben knew how to use it for that purpose. This would also explain how Ben and Widmore knew they could not kill each other, they both knew that they had seen themselves in the future, and this was not their death, but Ben and Widmore are both men that know some of the circumstances of their own futures. But that is more of a corollary to the main theory explaining Walt's unusual appearances, Ms. Klugh's questions concerning such appearances, and Ben's obvious knowledge of the working of the Orchid station. I wonder if the appearance of “taller ghost Walt” might be related to this also?
Even farther out there, working with a theory that I know I have read written by others, Walt is Abaddon, (the “Mr. Locke” things was a little TOO obvious) and he traveled to the past, sometime in the future, because he knew he could because he had before... This is his future motivation for finding the island.
Anyway, hope most of this is new. Don't mean to steal any ideas I might not have read, I presume someone thought of this before me, but I haven't read it yet. Hope you don't hate it, but hey, go ahead, tell me if you do :)
Oh, yeah.... "Abandoned" "Abaddon"?
