Okay so I thought of a small theory here. And for it to work, you have to assume the jughead worked and created an alternate reality. However if it DOES work, it helps us explain a few small "Continuity errors", and explain WHAT changed.

So I look at things like this. If the Jughead did create a new alternate reality that means somthing in the 1977 reality we saw changed. Somthing in the Jack's present, was different from his past(the original 1977)
Did Juliet decide to detonate the bomb? Did Jack decide to do somthing different this time then before?
Its possible. However, I think there is more proof of somthing ELSE changing. What changed?
The Incident. In this "new" reality, the Incident happened earlier.
OKay, now, lets go through the ORIGINAL reality's 1977 and see how I belive things progressed.
-----------------First Reality(Jack's PAST 1977)-----------------
-The losties jump into the past.
-Jack, Kate and Hurley join DHARMA,
-Sayid is captured and brought to the Flame.
-In this reality, Radzinsky ISNT working on the Swan construction set.
-Thus he isnt afraid Sayid discovered it.
-Sayid is still locked away, but isnt interogated.
-Sayid still shoots Ben,
-Faraday returns
-Faraday still dies, convinces Jack to detonate Jughead.
-Jack and co storm the Swan site and drop Jughead into the shaft. It fails.
-The difference this time is that Radzinsky isnt paranoid about the Swan being discovered, and as such, DIDNT BEGIN DRILLING INTO THE POCKET OF ENERGY YET.
Thats the difference in this reality. When they storm the Swan, the Incident actually hasnt been set off. So Juliet isnt sucked into the Swan shaft. Instead, The bomb fails, and Chang(Who knows they're from the future) manages to talk everyone down and work things out. Jack and the group end up staying in DHARMA times.
-Because the Incident didint occur yet and the Swan is still being built, Chang goes on to act in the Pearl and Orchid orientation films(WITH HIS ARM)
-(Lets just say this happens in 1979 to seperate the dates)
Radzinsky ends up finshing the Swan construction. Then, the LAST thing he does is drill into the pocket of energy(Which makes more actual sense, seeing as hed want that energy to be controlled). The Incident occurs much LATER, Chang loses his arm. And the button is put in place. DHARMA eventually uses Faraday's journal to create the failsafe protocol, using the jughead core.
-The Losties live out the end of their days as part of DHARMA, eventually dying in the purge.
-----------------Second Reality(Jack's PRESENT 1977)-----------------
-The losties jump into the past.
-Jack, Kate and Hurley join DHARMA,
-Sayid is captured and brought to the Flame.
-In this reality, Radzinsky IS working on the Swan construction set.
-Sayid notices it, and Radzinsky begins to get paranoid.
-Sayid is locked away,and interogated by Oldham. Where he reveals knowldge of the Swan station(as well as others).
-Radzinsky becomes exetemly paranoid about the hostiles discovering the Swan site is being built in their area. So he decides to move up the shechdule. Instead of drilling when the swan is complete/some safetly protcols can be put in place(as is the smart thing)
he decides to break ground on the pocket of energy as soon as possible.(Which Chang disagrees with. hence why they are arguing)
-Sayid still shoots Ben,
-Faraday returns
-Faraday still dies, convinces Jack to detonate Jughead.
(This is still taking place in 1977)
-Jack and co storm the Swan site and drop Jughead into the shaft. It fails. But the Incident/drilling occurs. Chang loses his arm, Juliet is draged into the shaft, and detonates Jughead.
*This is the changed reality, so what happens next is anyones guess
Proof of the Incident happening later:
1: The Swan orientation film: Chang states that "not long after the experiments began, there was an Incident." According to THIS orientation film, the Incident/drilling occured when the station was already constructed/being used for experiments.
2: The Orchid/Pearl Orientation films: In these film, chang clearly still has both his arms. Despite the fact he loses it in the Incident. This could be taken as a continuity error. But It could also be taken as prrof of great change.
3: Jughead being detonated: I know we dont REALLY know if this happened yet. But I Look at it like this. I think the Jughead core being the failsafe just makes sense. Seeing all the evidence Faraday compiled on it working. Now, for those of you who belive in WHH, dont you think its odd that a nuclear bomb failed to destroy the energy? What could DHARMA throw together thats more effective then Jughead?
Proof of the Survivors dying in the purge/living out their lives as part of DHARMA:
1:"I watched them all die": I dont belive Richard would exadurate somthing like this. Say if he just saw the flash. I think he would be honest about what he saw. If Ricahrd says he watched thme all die, he did.
2:The Hurley bird: Somone on here had a great theory that the Hurley Bird could have been a pet of Hurley's while he was a part of DHARMA. Well, maybe this took place in the original reality. Maybe Hurley eventually made his way over to the Hydra island and began working with the birds.
3:"Your mine!!/You look just like her": I belive Ben's irrational love for Juliet comes from him recogniser her from his past. According to the show, Ben doesnt remember anything from before he was healed. So, this type of obession must have come from after. Ben could have easily grown up working with Juliet/fallen for her.
Now the last question you may have is? What caused Radzinsky to change this time? Why did the Incident happen earlier. I think the simpliest answer is here that, in a show where timetravel is always going on, I think things are destined to change slightly each time(What Jacob would call, "Progress")
