On my rewatch, a part stuck out of Catch 22 like a sore thumb. As did a part of the Inicident, as I believe many noticed, and that was the flashback part of the episode where we meet a younger Juliet. There was no meeting with Jacob, and just an odd little flash that seemed a little unnecessary if anything.
This is season five, the finale, and with one season to go, I do not believe the writers would be throwing a nice bit of filler at us in this form just right now. I truly believe that we will see a continuation of this flashback in some form or other in season six. Whether Jacob is involved or not is up for debate; we know that Jacob no doubt had some hand in getting Juliet to the island in the first place, maybe asking Richard to investigate.
The part of Catch 22 I am referring to about being odd is the part where Desmond says he was down and out on his luck when he meets a man dressed like a priest who offers him a hand. It is meeting this man that leads him to meet Penny, and sets him off on this series of events. I checked in the episode, it doesn't seem like the priest that Desmond converses with mostly is the priest that first met Desmond when he was drunk, but someone else. I believe that it was Jacob that Desmond met.
I wouldn't mind being proved wrong, it may just be a random case. If it does turn out to be Jacob, it would be amazing forward planning (well, I'm hoping for some nice suprises in season six, the tampa job I hope could come up!), but it could just be me hoping that we get Desmond back in season six.
Here's to hoping.
