during a car ride yesterday, i started thinking about how much we are finally going to learn this season. how much ill miss it when its all gone. but then i started thinking about what the end of the show will be about and why the oceanic survivors were so special and what they're destiny is or could be.
and then, my epiphany came.
i realized the whole tie in of the island, the people, the numbers, and the others. well, enough of the b******t, time for me to share my thoughts. now, i dont know the specifics (with lost its almost impossible to know those) but i know the ooverall gist of what the show is about and what we'll be experiencing in the final episodes. maybe.
ok, this theory is a little complex and flashed in my mind in the matter of seconds, so ill explain it piece by piece. first, and most importantly, humanity as we know it is coming to an end. there is going to be a huge mistake by mankind's superiors and governments that will inevitably end the human race, a very special, unique race. the only way for humanity to survive this mistake is to go on the most miraculous place on the planet; the island. we know the island is a very special place, that it has a lot of history and many sacrifices are made to protect and to stay on it. the island is a form of a sanctuary that saves people from themselves and who they used to be (explaining all the redemptions given to the survivors). Ultimately, the island will save mankind. But mankind must prove itself first.
the island and those higher powers upon it tried to make sure humans would be excepted onto the island from a very early age. but they always failed. "They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt".
but what about those upon oceanic airlines flight 815? what is there purpose on the island?
a question with a very complex answer, which i think i have also figured out, but first, lets shortly revisit the dharma initiative and its initial creation (which will be more thoroughly be explained by ABC's "Mysteries of the Universe: The Dharma Initiative"). The dharma initiative was created upon the discovery of the Valenzetti equation- 4 8 15 16 23 42. This equation explains the way the world will end, or at least the end of mankind. So why was the DI created so soon after its discovery? because that end was drawing near, in only a matter of decades. maybe in the early '10s of the 21st century. 2012 maybe? anyway, the dharma initiative failed because they only accidentally figured out this end and were not chosen by the island or its hierarchy to prove themselves.
and now, the importance of the oceanic survivors.
they are the final test group. it only ends once, and that end will come if they dont succeed. if they fail to prove mankind's existence is pure and worthy, then mankind will end before the island allows the gives humanity another chance to save itself. now that i think about it, the island is somewhat of a fail-safe. anyway, the oceanic survivors are the final batch of humanity to be tested by the island. But because humanity has failed soooo many times before, this final test group was made up humanities worst; a drunk, a murderer, a con man, an addict, a hustler, a torturer, and more. if they were able to prove themselves, then they surely could prove that mankind, even the worser people of it, were pure and worthy of the islands ability to save them. this is why the island kept pulling those who left it back, because they are the chosen, by the island and/or its hierarchy, and must help to save their species, they just dont know it yet, and cannot know it if they are to ! truthfully prove themselves.
so, basically, humanity is soon to end, the island is the only place that will save them, humanity accidentally found out, the final test group is the oceanic survivors, and the end portion of season 6 will be about the 815ers proving themselves to save mankind, or failing to do so.
hope that maybe some of this comes to play, because i for one am very excited for the show if it will go in a direction somewhat parallel to this.
Mayzler out. Happy 1.27.09!
