Credit goes to my girlfriend for this theory. Its brief but I really like the sound of it. Darlton has said that the final scene of Lost will be a single image, and apparently such a dramatic and interpretive ending that the writers feel they will need to go into hiding after the series finale aires. They have also repeatedly said that their story is a character driven story, and that the characters of their story would have a definitive end. So with these two ideas in mind, I propose that the final scene of Lost will be Jack's eye closing (most likely in death), and our story will abruptly end with the end of Jack's story (either the last character of importance alive, or the significance is that it was Jack's eye who we opened this story with in the Pilot). I would love to hear your comments on this idea. Also, apologies if this has been said elsewhere and I just haven't read it.
