Sorry, folks; the writers are not going to “reset” to the flight landing safely in LAX. I admit, I’m not as well versed on alternate timelines and quantum physics as a good deal of you are, but I know writers; and it’s safe to say that the LOST writers don’t have anything planned with LAX. And here’s why:
#1. The flight was off course even before it crashed.
I know that this has been posted before but it bears repeating. Even if Desmond is not on the island to forget to punch in the numbers and subsequently cause the crash, something was wrong even before the plane crashed. The writers would have to do some “Scooby Do explaining”---shout out to Ricky for giving us the “Scooby Do” reference; love it!---about how the flight never veered off course this time around and has landed safely in LAX.
#2. The writers will not write Season 6 like Season 5.
A good chunk of Season 5 was the Oceanic 6 getting back together and getting back to the island. If we are to believe that the beginning of Season 6 will include the flight landing safely in LAX, then we’re saying that the passengers will leave the airport and go back to their regular lives. Even if they have flashbacks of alternate timelines or Desmond-like memories, they still have to, once again, come back together and get to the island…again...for a third time…*yawn*
#3. Fans want real answers, not Scooby Snacks.
The writers are not going to give us a Scooby Do ending because they would have a ton of pretty ticked off, DHARMA jumpsuit-wearing fans blogging ferociously about it. We have to be back on the island to figure out what’s in the temple, what’s up with Richard, what exactly the loophole is, why pregnancy is an issue on the island, what the whispers are, for what purpose did the Others take Walt, etc etc etc. I vaguely remember Darlton saying something to the fashion that it’s not a show about an island, but if you take away the island and put this show just in the real world, then you DO get a Scooby Do ending. And that’s not going to happen. NO!!!!!!!!!
#4. Richard Alpert “4 Eva”…Or, at least, for 16 episodes
Nestor Carbonell (oh, how I love thee---ahem) is going to be a series regular for season 6; it’s believed that he will be in almost every single episode. If that doesn’t convince you that we’re still on the island then nothing I say will.
#5. No Season 7
This is it, people. The writers do not have an infinite amount of time to wrap up the multiple mysteries that LOST has put out there. So, there is no time for filler like, “Have we met before?!” “Why do I remember shooting a polar bear?” when we have so many other things to unravel.
So, if not LAX, then what?!
Well…I do have my theories. ;)
