This is not a WHH theory, but more of a theory of why the writers used time travel in the first place.
I belive that with so many fans wanting to know what Dharma was about after season two, and three, that time travel was the only way the writes could make us understand what happend without making too many reaches in their story telling.
With out time travel how do we explain how Richard knew to look for John as a young boy? We wouldn't have gotten any of the backstory on Horace(who we saw first when Ben was born) who turns out to be Ethans' father(Ethan still needs to be explained). We learned so much about the others and DI because of time travel I don't think the writers could have given us such an in depth look at the past without it.
So in having to take our Losties to the past to give us this vital info, WHH has to be the case because if it's not thewn these past events don't matter and season 5 would be a monumental waste of time.
Also on a side note is it just me or does it seem like turning the donkey wheel moves a person sometime into the futrue? When Ben turned the wheel to move the island the helicopter hadn't crashed in the water yet, but when Ben pops up in the desert after turning the wheel he is in what I presume to be the future because the first thing he sees on TV is Sayid being hounded by the media. When John turns the wheel he seems to show up in 2006-2008 (sometime ahead of his present on the island)some time which is a good amount of time after Ben turned the wheel, but in actuallity John turned the wheel relatively closer to the time Ben turned it in what I'll call "REAL TIME".
