My last theory was entitled The Spiral. I believe that the larger cycle of events is the main story of Lost and the Spiral which is a time loop is within the larger story arc. The time travel is after all a way the writers have been able to tell the rest of the story in a shorter space of time than they had previously planned doe to the writers strike. I have more to follow on where I think Lost is going but I need to get this out there first as I think it help you understand the next bit opf what I'd like to say. Happy reading!
EGYPTIAN HISTORICAL CHARACTERS
"Apep was believed, by the ancient Egyptians, to be a powerful Snake Devil of darkness and rebellion who lived in the underworld, or in some accounts, the waters of Nun (i.e., primordial chaos). According to some versions of the mythology, he was present in the world even before the Sun God rose up from chaos to create the Earth…Apep (Apepi, Aapep, Apophis) was a demon of the underworld, in the form of a giant water snake. It was believed that he was created when Nit spat into the primeval waters of Nun. He was the enemy of the sun god, trying to stop him as he travelled on his barque through the underworld each night. He was so powerful that little could defeat him, and even then, he was back again the following evening to threaten Ra. He was a demon outside of ma'at, the opposite of order, a demon of darkness and chaos." quote from http://www.theisticsatanism.com/geifodd/apep.html
When Tawaret mates with Apep then she becomes "the demon-wife of Apep, the original god of evil" according to Wikipedia. Apep has lots of similarities to The Smoke Monster.
If Tawaret protects childbirth then I'd say she's good. Unless she mates with Apep then maybe that allows Apep out of the underworld to roam free on our island. Or is it that the statue was destroyed that there's problems with childbirth and old smokey is loose? When the was statue destroyed.
GREEK MYTHOLOGY
“In older Greek myths, the realm of Hades is the misty and gloom abode of the dead (also called Erebus), where all mortals go. Later Greek philosophy introduced the idea that all mortals are judged after death and are either rewarded or cursed.”
“Heracles' final labour was to capture Cerberus. First, Heracles went to Eleusis to be initiated into the Eleusinian Mysteries. He did this to absolve himself of guilt for killing the centaurs and to learn how to enter and exit the underworld alive. He found the entrance to the underworld at Taenarum. Athena and Hermes helped him through and back from Hades. Heracles asked Hades for permission to take Cerberus. Hades agreed as long as Heracles didn't harm Cerberus. When Heracles dragged the dog out of Hades, he passed through the cavern Acherusia.”

STORIES FROM THE BIBLE
Jacob was a twin with Esau.... both left the womb fighting and continued to fight for the rest of their lives. Jacob disguised himself as Esau to gain his fathers blessing and birthright that was intended for his brother. (The MIB disguises himself as Locke in a similar deception.) Esau vowed to one day kill Jacob once the time came for stealing his birthright and blessing (The MIB wants to kill Jacob badly.)
Jacobs Ladder – The idea that people are brought to the island to be tested to see if they can sit with God. I’m not saying that this is what he’s doing but that could have been how it was interpreted at the time and why it was written that way in the stories in the Bible.
Jacobs wife Rachel was unable to have children, but she died during the second childbirth (why the women on the island never survive pregnancy)
Jacob had several children, the last one called Benjamin, who he would often treat as inferior to the other children which frustrated Benjamin who wanted to shine in his fathers eyes. (Ben, a leader in a long line of leaders/children asked "What about me?" and was answered "What about you?") I owe most of this evidence to Feed the Reaper who posted on Digital Spy. Some of what is written here I had research myself too but I have adapted what he wrote to use in this theory.
All I am establishing here is that we have see the events unfolding on the island in Lost in a similar way. Not that all events are exactly the same but the gist is that throughout history people have been coming to the island and being subjected/tested by two entities one good and one evil perhaps. They are at least on opposing sides, I’m sure we can all agree.
Things occur very similarly with whomever inhabits the island at the particular time. Eg a group of people come to the island from one point in history and when faced with the powers of the island act in a certain way. They fight over the power and squabble over becoming the leader until they destroy each other. All the while they are being manipulated by these two entities, good and evil, Jacob and Esau, Apep and Ra, Hades and Heracles or whatever they're called by the current inhabitants of the island. When they are gone Jacob calls another group of people to the island. When we see these two men on the beach at the start of the Incident episode they are waiting for the next group of people chosen to come and play the game/live the cycle. I think it is probably just after the cycle where the MIW(man in white) was influencing a man called Jacob who was living on the island at the time. I mean Jacob from stories from the Bible. I’m not saying he is Jacob but that the MIB c! alled him that as a joke or just because that’s who he was known as last.
In the meanwhile time off island has moved on and the human race has progressed. That's how I interpreted the conversation the 2 men had on the beach at the start of The Incident episode. The MIB claims that it "always ends the same," with destruction and corruption, when people are brought to the Island. The blond man replies that it only ends once and anything before that is just progress. The progress IMO is mankind progressing to develop a way of time travelling which allows the game to include a different strategy for Jacob and the MIB.
Perhaps the MIW is doing something similar to the story of Jacob's ladder and trying to prove that humans are worthy to sit with God or maybe he's just a bored alien who wants some fun! I reckon the MIW calls people to the island and manipulates their path to get there, this could include the use of the numbers (Valenzetti Equation). That could be why Jacob touched the Losties that he did and it was part of the selection process. They might even both get a chance to pick their teams but I’m not so sure. This is because Jacob touched Locke and I’m fairly certain that if anyone’s been influencing Locke then it has been MIB not Jacob.
If you look at it then you could probably find out that all the Losties were brought to the island because of either Jacob’s will or brought by them both. Maybe the role of the Others is not just course correction as I previously theorised but to assist in the game. They might have been helping influence the Losties into arriving on the island. I have spotted a few examples of this. The first one I’ve said before in my last theory.
1) Kate was caught in Australia and was being brought back to the US by the marshall but a horse jumped in the road and allowed her to escape. This prolonged her return to the US until the marshall caught up with her again and eventually she ended up on the plane that crashed on the island. The horse that caused the accident was an island apparition, funny that.
2) Inman led Sayid to the island. This is a long one but it shows to what lengths the Others are prepared to go to. Inman could have interrogated Tariq, Sayid’s commanding officer, as he could speak Arabic. He only enlisted Sayid’s help so that Sayid would learn the skills of interrogation. This led Sayid to be involved in infiltrating a terrorist cell in Sydney. His plane ticket back was the 815 flight.
3) Shannon and Boone were on the plane because of a chain of events influenced by Jack’s choice to save Sarah rather than Shannon’s Dad. As a result Shannon had to earn her own money and ended up in Australia. How that relates to Jacob I’m not sure but I’m sure it’s there somewhere.
Come on with comments and any other ways that people have been brought to the island would be welcome too.
