Been a while since I have written anything here so I apologize for any rust my writing skills may have developed! Anyway!
We all know Desmond is special. We all also speculate WHY he is special. Most of us have come to the conclusion that it is because of the fail safe key that he turned in the hatch. Further speculation can lead us to believe that the failsafe he activated is very closely related to what happened at the end of "The Incident", or the incident itself. We saw the same bright light in each instance, and both had to do with the pocket of energy underneath the ground.
We have identified that the "rules don't apply" to Desmond through Faraday. We also know that Desmond was able to remember a memory that Daniel put in his head while he was time traveling to get to his mother. If it was anyone but Daniel in that hatch, it never would have worked (So it would be implied, at least).
What I am getting at, is that the writers have made certain to convince us that:
A. Des is special
B. Des is capable of changing or atleast, delaying, certain events that fate has in motion
and
C. He is this way due to the release of energy from the failsafe key.
Taking this all into account (I am sure there are people who dont agree with A,B, and C up there, but I do, so there!), it is safe to say that Jack and the other "incident" people who were time traveling may have become "special" now due to what happened. They released energy through a nuke (the failsafe was probably a similar energy release to counter the islands energy and contain it), and are all very very close when it happens (in fact they were the closest people alive to the hole, I believe).
Do these losties who have been touched by Jacob now have abilities similar to Desmond? Will they be able to make "fate late"? Will the "rules" no longer apply to them in the upcoming season? Will they begin to jump through time within their minds like Des did?
I am going to say yes, and I think it is how we will be seeing old cast members. There will not be a true "reset", because fans would be irate, however a great way to handle the situation would be to have our 70's losties bouncing around a few times within their heads to important points in their lives, most likely on island, and pre freighter.
They could make small changes along the way until they get an outcome they are looking for (whatever that may be). If this doesnt happen, then perhaps they will begin to have "future flashes" like Des was having of Charlie dying. Im probably wrong on all accounts, but hey, its the hiatus and I'm entitled =) Thanks for reading.
