After rewatching the first 3 seasons again, I think I stumbled onto something.
During the episode 'Flash before your eyes", we see that the result of Desmond activating the failsafe is his "mind" travel back to the most important event in his life.. his leaving Penny.
if we conclude that the failsafe is Jughead, or the outer core casing of Jughead, can we safely assume that maybe what we will see at the begining of season 6 is that all of our 77 Losties "mind" travel back to the events of 815?
this would leave their memories intact, and a desire to try and change the events as they unfold, albiet unsuccessfully. once they reach the point of crash, they "mind" travel back to 2007/2008 and season 6 now continues to conclusion.
how can they mind travel to 2007/2008 if they were not there?
because they were.
what we saw in season 5 was them "mind" traveling to 1977, not time traveling.
because they were always there. because whatever happened, happened.
this will bring teh season 1 feel and the season 6 fell, tying both timelines together. it will also be how we see our dead friends, alive as the 77 losties try to convince them to not get on the plane.
