Ever have a theory that just feels absolutely right? I mean I could be way off here, but I like this idea.
We haven't seen diddley squat of the Ancient Times, right? We don't know anything about the people who built the statue, or what it was, or built the well, or the temple, or the donkey wheel. My thought is, is that we don't know, because the only thing to show us during these times, wouldn't reveal way to much information than they've been willing to give us up until now. That means whatever it is that happened back then, is super super important.
Ok, so what I'm thinking is that Jacob and his friend were normal at one time. They had come and settled the island. Who knows how or why. But, the point is, that they were both human.
They built a temple around some sort of dark energy, a dark power. The Man in Black was converted by this power to be its human representative. Remember of course how Richard had said that Ben, similarly, would "never be the same" after going into the temple, and the temple by all logic, is extremely important to the show. Whatever is in there, is of the utmost importance.
But then Sawyer and company leave the well rope hanging out of the ground in the ancient past. Somebody had to find it right? And by finding it, that led them to the power within the wheel chamber. I say JACOB finds it, and he becomes absorbed into an opposite power, a white power, and he takes on a job counter but equal to that of the Man in Black. They build the well, and protect that power source, perhaps in secret from The Man in Black.
And the two of them carry on, each guided by a different power native to the island.
I would even venture to say that neither of them may be exactly who they were in life. Similiarlly to how we don't think Christian or Yemi were the same. The island imbued them with the powers they found, and now uses them as it sees fit. Although it may very well be the opposite and it is they who are using the power.
But I think this is a step in the right diretion. Somebody found the well. Somebody built the temple, and the powers that are within each are obviously key to the show. It looks as though both were built in the ancient ancient past, perhaps at about the same time, and it would stand to reason that those two power sources, at the very least relate to the two men who seem to weild great power.
Of couse the interesting twist is what that means for the Swan. Is a 3rd and different power? Perhaps one in the middle of the other two, or just different? Is it stronger and supperior? I might wonder if it is actually the destiny of one of our losties to fully release that power and become like Jacob and his friend. I would have guessed that to be Locke or Jack, but maybe Desmond has already done that? Hummmmmmmm.
