This is my first time posting a theory after being a reader for a very long time. I will keep it short and sweet because this very well could have been brought up before.
We are all familiar with the similarities that are shown with Backgammon. White vs. Dark and all that...
More recently, this "game" aspect of the show has gotten much larger. We now see it as the Losties being the game pieces and Jacob & MIB being the players (or at least of a lot of people do).
While re-watching season 1, there was a scene that just jumped out at me. The scene shows Locke in a department store showing a child how the game of mouse-trap works.
"Well you start with all these parts off the board. And then, one by one, you build the trap – shoe, bucket, tub – piece by piece it all comes together. And then you wait until your opponent lands here on the old cheese wheel. And then if you set it up just right, you spring the trap."
It just seems to spot on and "lost oriented" to be a minor detail.
All the pieces starting off the board (Losties)
One by one being brought (Jacob & MIB bring people to the island, maybe just Jacob - through Jacob's touching)
Old Cheese Wheel (Frozen donkey wheel...bit of a strech, but still)
Spring the trap (The loophole?)
It is only a detail that could give us more evidence as to what the overlying theme really is, but it is still rather significant...IMO.
