Who is The Hanso Foundation? And do they have an connection with The Purge?
There are many questions on LOST, one of the most captivating is with all their real life Easter eegs, how do we decifer which are real and which are out there to throw us off. Such as the arrival and connection with the Hanso Foundation. Why did they support the Dharma Initiative and why did the suddenly stop their support in the late 80's? This is why I have come to believe that the Hanso foundation are the original inhabitants of the island.
My evidence can be as clear as day when you really think. It is proven and verified by Darlton that the Hanso Foundation and the Dharma Initiative were once partners, but for some reason split in the late 80's. The Hanso Foundation was here to help better the world as was the Dharma Initiative, this is why Jacob supported the Hanso Foundation and the DI, because he realized that working together it would be easier for them to achieve the greater good for the world.
The Hanso Foundation were some people whom were brought to the island on the Black Rock, possibly by Jacob. The man who owned the BR was named Magnus Hanso, so who is to say that Jacob didn't bring his crew to the island with his touch. Knowing they shared the same belief that bad things only happen once and every thing after that was progress towards a better tomorrow. So why wouldn't Jacob want them on the island, not only to play the game but also prove the MIB wrong along with helping the world.
But Jacob needed someone to manage the HF on the island and whom better than Richard Alpert. Alpert was on the BR and was possibly the leader of the ship so why not make him Jacob's over seer of the island, this is why he was given he ageless powers by Jacob . With the HF now on the island they could work to better the world. Jacob figured that the HF could look into the non technological ways of bettering the world, such as using faith and some would say magic. Why wouldn't bring in another organization with the same purpose to work alongside, instead this group would utilize technology, this other group is the DI.
While the HF was there to harness the properties of the island not by the technological means, but by the Egyptian and magical properties of the island. While they would bring the DI onto the island to do the the technological advancement. With both sides of the methods being used they were sure to come up with some positive results. There was just one arrangement, that the two residents of the island could not work together. This is why the HF works in the temple while the DI builds their stations.
Jacob did not want to mix science and faith especially on this sacred island. So they were made to believe they were enemies, yet another scenario of science vs. faith. They worked alongside for years, with Jacob slightly favoring the HF, but when the incident occurred and Radzinsky took control of the DI Jacobs plan could be in jeopardy. And he would be proven wrong to the MIB, thus losing the game. So they decided to have an ace in the hole, this ace would be Benjamin Linus.
Manipulating him with images of his mother along with his fathers foul treatment it would be easy.They would have him be a spy for the others and look in on the DI to see if they were still doing these things for the good of the island. Things were going well to a point,but when Jacob or Alpert felt they were just doing things not for the benefit of the island or to just cause destruction, as the MIB predicted, why would they continue to allow them to live. Along with Ben's testimony and help the decision of The Purge was ordered. No one know exactly when The Purge occurred but it is specualted that in the late 80's to early 90's. My fellow Losties the HF cut financial support to the DI in the year 1987. So is it just a coincidence or could it be something more?
