Another crazy theory of mine.
So we've been arguing alot as to who exactly Jacob and his nemesis, the man in black are and why MIB wants to kill Jacob so bad. Well, what if they are/were the same person? Perhaps this was a very conflicted individual who somehow managed to separate the opposing sides of himself...via time travel, course correction or whatever.
I'll admit, there really isn't much basis for this. It's just something that popped in my head when thinking about why MIB can't kill Jacob himself.
Also, on top of whatever else they might be, I think Jacob and MIB are physical incarnations of the island and it's will. How this came to be....no idea. I'd imagine it's something similar to Locke's communion with island during the first three seasons, only much more open and intense. It's possible if Jacob and MIB are from the future, that they traveled so far back into the island's past, they ended up being the first people to ever encounter it. Perhaps the island keeps them alive for so long because they have become one and the same in a sense.
Comments anyone?
