Time is a line or a string that never changes.
It begins at point A and Ends at Point Z.
an events and/or events sometime after point A caused a sorta cascading domino effect that built up over time, eventually this effect leads to point Z.
Time always began at Point A and always ends at point Z.
Some have explained it as "what happened, happened:", "Destiny", "Fate"
"The Constants" are things that occur or exists withing time but have no conciousness. No matter how much you change the past Mount Rushmore will be built, World war II will happen, Nuclear bombs will be created, planes will crash into the ocean.
These are "All of the constants" But only a certain number of "Constants" are important, say flight 815 crashing, jughead getting to the island, the black rock landing on the island, etc.
This leads into course correction. I will give examples using lost stuff again.
Originally the Blackrock went to the island and it's captain was lets pretend Richard Alpert. But later in the future the losties go back in time and prevent Richard from becoming the captain. So the 1st mate gets promoted to captain and the boat sails and goes to the island.
The person driving the boat is a "Variable" Richard was variable B time traveler who stoped him was variable C and the 1st mate was variable D. So when time traveler (b) comes along and distrupts captain (a), the 1st mate (b) takes over. and if you were to prevent the 1st mate from taking over. one of the officers would become the captain and the boat would sail to the island. and if you burned the boat to the ground the captain would buy another boat and rename it the black rock. and every choice the variables made was of free will.
So really the only thing that you can ever change in time is the variables in relation to events that always must occur. It does not matter where you time travle to or the choices you make because they always lead to point Z.
Some people know this and they try to maniuplate things by using "Proxies" and this is how.
Lets say you are an evil mastermind who battled in the past on a mysterious island and you won. Now you have a wealth of knowledge about all the events in the past that must happen. but you know that the people can change, variables can change. so you begin to manipulate things. Say there is supposed to be a doctor on a flight 815 named christian, but you change things and use a proxie someone else for that event. aka Jack. this is an example only I'm not saying this is what happened.
Its like a deck of cards in your hand. There are always 52 cards and they alway have a bottom and a top. but the order of the cards can change. the deck is time, the cards are variables. Its always a deck of cards when you look at it as a whole, its always the same it never changes, but the cards always deal out different.
