Ok, to start this I'm first going to say two things. One, part of this theory is based on some credible articles/theories from others that I've read (THANK YOU DOC JENSEN!!!), so I'm not going to try and claim I'm the be all end all maker of this theory. And second, those who hate on my grammer...well something odd seems to happen where !!!!'s are added at random when I post on this site and on some emails (damn you apple lol) so stop thinking I'm just a sloppy speller (and seriously I'm not spending five hours proof reading and grammar checking...this is for fun guys not my old English class).
THEORY TIME!
Alright I'm keeping this short and sweet. Look at the timeline of the whispers on lostpedia...and you'll find something very interesting out...according to the article on the whispers, I noticed that we hadn't heard any BEFORE the Incident...getting where I'm going yet...I finally realized how it all tied together with jughead, the whispers, bringing people back, and keeping it confusing and fresh...THEY ALL DIED JUST LIKE RICHARD SAID AND THE FINAL SEASON WE SEE THEM AS GHOSTS INTERACTING AND SCREWING WITH PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND...INCLUDING THEMSELVES.
How awesome would that be though? Think about it...the premier airs and we see Jack, Sawyer, and Juliet all in the jungle like many times before. We hear a crash or better yet the group see Sayid running through the Forest looking wounded...only to find out it's the Sayid from the episode SOLITARY (where the whispers apparently are FIRST heard).
This actually makes A LOT of sense. It would be a great curveball, it would keep the story fresh, it would put EVERYTHING into a different context, and it would give a chance for us to see returning characters. What better way to introduce Claire back into the show...then have them all meet her as their constant/casper guide to the afterlife. It would be amazing cause it does make sense, the writers would have a field day writing dialogue between Hurley and Miles...and i don't know...maybe Jacob's body is dead, but the hell that stops his spirit from coming back.
Also we'd learn more about the rules and probably divine intervention. The science/fate argument would be fantastic cause the cast would probably think that Jughead is the reason they're still around and ghosts (as opposed to the faith side who will argue it's god or something like destiny), and it would allow us to to potentially see EVERYTHING we ever wanted too from other perspectives/extended scenes. The writers themselves even said that it was exciting in season five where they got to take events (Richard with Locke) and expand upon them (where it turns out Locke told Richard he had to tell his back to the future version he was going to die) after an initial viewing at a later episode.
This also could explain a lot of plot-holes (I know I made a bit of a fuss happen on my thread the other day :) ) I was complaining about, like Ben and the cabain...maybe some of them get trapped in the cabin because of Christian or Esau or maybe they're the ones who make Ben think he's the leader (dreams, tell him where the cabin is). It also would make sense why the LOST logo is inverted...cause now where seeing the show from the OTHER SIDE...(in the show when they are alive they're black pieces on the board, but when they died in the Jughead blast...well they would be white as ghosts and spirits).
On a final note, I personally like the fact that this would allow the writers to give closure on a beautiful and bittersweet (quoting Daemon Lindelof there with bittersweet) ending to the show. Imagine if it was like that movie Ghost Ship or Mortal Kombat, where they set things right and then the souls are all set free...so the cast members who wanted to get killed off actually technically do...they all get peace by freeing themselves from the island (it is supposed to be about them after all), and hell..no show on earth would dare approach an ending like this except for LOST. THANK YOU AND PICK AWAY!!!!!
