I think when the show returns in S6, we can have a situation where things are possible changed, but not for everyone. I have seriously wondered how the writers could actually let everything change and still honor the time investment that so many fans have made into the show. I think changing everything would seriously be a disappointment.
What I think could happen is maybe a little far-fetched, but I think could serve fixing things and keeping fans happy as well. I think that maybe Jack and Company do change things and yet find themselves on the island with locke and Company after the explosion. Maybe they came on the Ajira flight or maybe not, but what could be a neat storyline is the statue now being in it's full form, not destroyed by the incident (because it has been prevented) and one of the O6 waking up in it's shadow. Jack would be a neat idea and have a him vs. bad locke theme for the war in S6. The reason I say it would not change for everyone is that the ones who lived through the 3 years (O6) will remember what happened. The writers said S6 would have a season 1 feel to it, so some of the episodes could be about flashes they have about what has changed for them. They don't remember these things because they didn't originally happen to them (Much like Faraday visiting the hatch and Desmond sud! denly remembering). So for a small number of characters, Jack, Lapidus, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Miles, Jin, Sun, etc., there are character based ep.'s like season one, only about how they ended up on flight 316.
I also like the theory about locke vs. bad locke, so he could be the one too lying in the shadow of the statue since it will be there again. Stopping the incident will also remedy the pregnancy woes. As for the others, Charlie, Shannon, etc., Jack actually saves them with the plan and they are alive and well in the real world. What this would mean for Desmond I still don't have a clue about. Maybe he would win the race around the world and end up with Penny anyway. And maybe Juliet will be alive in the real world since she never had to come to the island for pregnancy issues. This would be good news to Sawyer and maybe he would leave the island and go find her at the end. Anyway, I hope this theory makes sense. I can't think of another way for things to change and for the time invested in seasons 1-5 not to be a waste. Also, I do think that the flight number 316 is important. Probably the most famous Bible verse the world is John 3:16, what God did to save the worl! d by sending His Son to die for our sins. So I think someone from flight 316 will be the one who will save them all as well on the show.
