Dead is Dead. You cannot come back. Even Richard said it himself and hes atleast been alive for 600 years because that was around the time the Black Rock set ashore of the Island (Atleast I infer that Richard has already stepped foot on the island or is on Black Rock when hell be cursed for the next hundreds of years). All that time and he has never seen anyone come back to life.
I recently whatched an S5 episode whith Danielle in it and it sprung my intrest. Danielle was never crazy at all, she was traumatized by the abbilities of The Smoke Monster (TSM for short). You see when the man who had his arm let loose as he we down the hole leading under the temple, he emmediately said he was ok and that they should come and get him. Now call me crazy but if i just lost a hand I dont think I'd be that calm. I infer that the others that went down the hole were killed just as the first one was, however the smoke monster used them for other purposes.
TSM replicated them just as he did with Alex. A perfect copy with the ability to walk the earth. But these living dead are now given a purpose to live and therfore must complete that action as a fulfillment. I believe that not only is Alex a replication, but Locke, Christian, Eckos brother and maybe even Richard ( he may have been dead but he has been used by the monster to fulfill some sort of goal). Whether these replications realize it or not, they are being used for a purpose. The island uses these dead to regulate the island. It only ends once...
