WHH is a very seductive theory, and the ironic death of Daniel Faraday, who eventually became the poster child for WH doesn't always H seems at first to seal the debate.
However, I do believe that we have already seen something that proves that whatever happened didn't always happen. When Faraday comes to Jack to in 1977 and demands to know how they got there, he tells them that they were not supposed to be there. Jack, Kate, and Hurley really are the variables in the equation.
What's the proof? We've actually already seen something where something that happened in 1977 had big ramifications on the story line thirty years later -- the camp initiation photo of the 1977 recruits.
Think about it. If WHH, then wouldn't they have been in the photo even before they travelled back in time? After all, Eloise Hawking has lived with the fact that she would kill her own son for all those decades, so we know that Daniel, at least, has always been in 1977. However, the 1977 crew never showed up in the recruit picture until they actually travelled back in time. Which is odd -- because if WHH, wasn't it always the case that they were in 1977 -- and shouldn't they always have been in the picture?
Thus, I'm not sure that WHH because it seems that whatever happened has not always happened. And Daniel is at least partially right -- the 1977 recruits really have been variables. Variables that have the power to change the future.
