I believe that whatever happened, happened meaning the bomb going off proves that whatever we witnessed in the 70's was us just seeing how history unfolded inorder to teach us the history of the island in order to better understand it before the end. This was always part of the incident. Jack and the losties always detonated the bomb and they disappeared in the blast which is why Richard thinks he saw them die. Here is my support for this theory and what it means moving forward.
-Season 2 while in the hatch Sayid comments to jack how concrete covering an area of the hatch is like chernobyl which was a nuclear meltdown.
-Season 4 in the constant Faraday asks desmond over the freighter phone if he was exposed to high levels of electromagnetism OR radiation. When he turned the fail safe key he was exposed to radiation also not just electromagnetism like we have been led to believe.
-Before the incident woman were able to give birth on the island. After the incident due to the radiation a birth defect occurs at conception and develops over the course of the pregnancy. Juliet was brought to the island to cure the problem, so it is fitting with the connections in the show that she caused it by detonating jughead. If she is dead its a fitting way to complete her story line like they did with her and sawyer.
