The smoke monster is some kinda hi tech robot from the future. The technology is way above anything we can comprehend.
The thing is : Jack is going to try to detonate this bomb. The problem is he will do so while the "incident" is taking place;
The result is that he will send a detonating H bomb in the future is a highly unstable magnetic environment causing the end of of humanity in some very distant future.
And by the way: everything has already changed. The present ( Locke/Ben present time) has changed. 70's dharma is whiped out, Darmhavile is a ghost town and Richard Alpert is helping The John Locke that gave him the compass in 1954. He doesn't know anything about the rest of the O6 besides seeing them killed in the 70's after the incident. Eloise agnowledge she cannot predict the future anymore.

I am still struggling with Richard role in all this, and I'm still wondering about WHEN he's coming from. Black Rock crew man (I mean, the guy knows how to build a ship in a bottle) ? egyptian priest discovering the rope sawyer left and digging the ground, freeing the smoke monster .
I do realise this seems insane as a theory, but this is the best I can come with connecting the dots
