After watching episode 5.15, Richard obviously is very unhappy at the way John Locke is treating his role as leader, his time with the other leaders of the hostiles has obviously been very different.
As much as he is obliged to follow and advise the different leaders through the course of his commitment to the island. I believe that Richard can not be tossed away so quietly in terms of changing certain events. For instance, with continued dissalusioned feelings over Ben's leadership, he inadvertandly changed it by telling Locke about Sawyer and his relationship with Locke's father. Also with Ben, he takes matters in to his own hands of saving him and we seem to forget that. As he is leading John away, he has a plan.
With Richard being on the island for so long, and now the whole of his 'group' he is trying to advise/protect being led away from him by Locke, what if he intends to create a new group from the beach people. I wouldn't be suprised by Frank asking the question to Illana
'Who sent you here'
and her replying
'Richard sent us'
What if Richard set up this team to stop Locke and all the people from following him to see Jacob? What if this group, purges the other group. What if that box aint just a box, but a body? The new leader. Just throwing out ideas.
The real thought is that, don't discount Richard on his role with the island, he has changed things before.
