Most people seem to think that "what lies in the shadow" must mean Jughead, or the well leading to the FDW. I've been thinking recently about The Door. Yes, we're told that it was a decoy to fool Michael. But what if it is more than that?
So, what do we know about The Door? Not much. Only that it appeared in two episodes at the end of season 2. And, that it is close to the remnants of the statue. In the finale, Sayid opens the doors to reveal a stone wall. So, why take the time to show the audience what Sayid sees behind the door? To make a stunning revelation later in the series, that's why.
I don't know a lot about Buddhism, but a "Dharma-door" refers generically to a teaching about a way or method of practice leading to enlightenment.
I'm thinking that The Door is an entrance to another Dharma station. But, the trick is, you have to be smart enough, or enlightened, to figure out how to get through. It seems like the stone wall was enough to turn Sayid away, so it would probably discourage a lot of other people who opened the doors...only to find the stone wall.
My guess is, there's currently only one person on the island who has figured out how to "open" The Door...Richard. Now, maybe there are a few others who have figured it out, but are not currently on the island. (Widmore and Hawking come to mind)
Just my thoughts. I haven't developed it a whole lot yet. But, let me know what you think.
