I think we have established the Dark vs. White idea, so I won't get too much into that.
When Ben goes through his whole poor me tirade, Jacob just kind of stares at him. When Ben asks, “What about me?” Jacob gives an honest response, “What about you?” Now, Jacob could have told Ben, “This being you are with is not really John Locke. I DO appreciate all the sacrifices you made, Ben.” But Jacob didn’t bother. He just asks Ben, “What about you?”
I think what he was trying to say was that Ben has lied, cheated, murdered (repeatedly and in cold blood). So … what? The force of good is supposed to be impressed? I also think Jacob wanted to die. Ben was looking for a response in which Jacob told Ben that he was important. Had Ben received that response, he might not have stabbed Jacob. But Jacob said just about the worst thing he could to Ben…”What about you?” It’s almost like he said, “You don’t matter. You have been nothing but a pawn.” He knew what Ben would do.
At the beginning of the episode, Jacob said, “It only has to end once.” I think he’s betting this is the last time he will every go through all this. There have been countless island finders who have all done the same things, made the same mistakes, with similar results. Countless...iterations. But this time….Jacob thinks the end will really be THE END. He’s going All In on the team he has assembled. “They’re coming,” Jacob says before Evil Locke/Bad Twin/Mr. Black pushes him into the fire. What did Jacob mean? Who is coming?
I don’t know how (i.e. the combination of the bomb and the pocket of negatively charged energy), but I think the 77ers are the ones who are coming…they and more players (Desmond, maybe Widmore and Eloise, etc.) are coming for a showdown. Sides will be chosen. In the past, it was the people who always fought each other. Maybe (big maybe) this time, they will unite and find a common enemy in Mr. Black.
If white wins, the dead return, and the island is paradise. People get second chances. Their knowledge of the past will NOT be erased. If black wins, the island becomes hell.
