It has been about 5 or so days since the season 5 finale aired and since then there has been a lot of talk about the bomb resetting things and everyone in 1977 being dead.
Yet, I have a hard time believing that and accepting it really.
To me, there just seems to be certain clues that tell us that the bomb didn’t kill everyone on the island….
1) 1977 is the present for Dr. Chang and Radzinsky. We know (and if we believe that everything we have seen in the past 5 seasons still happens) that Chang still has to make all the Dharma videos. And they showed us how he loses his hand. Also, Radzinsky still has to have the Swan built to shoot himself in the 1980s. So, if what Faraday and Miles say about time for them, THEM, the Losties, is no longer on a straight line… they are in the present for themselves, but in relation to them in the past of other people. So, the future for people on the island at the moment, like Chang and others, they still have a future in store for themselves that has not yet happened. Chang has to complete the Orchid, Horace and the rest of the Dharma (sadly) have to be wiped out in the Purge… For the island to be destroyed by this bomb just doesn’t seem logical (to me) because the future for certain characters haven’t happened yet.
I am somewhat all over the place with thoughts. But if you look back when Desmond turned the fail safe key in the Swan, what was left was a ditch in the ground… I started to think that yes, the bomb did go off, but it was contained by the pocket of energy, and not killing anyone (but sadly Juliet) on the island. It simply was (the bomb) restricted in its nuke affects and the energy restricted the blast. That leaves Jack, Sawyer, and company still in 1977. With the explosion on the bomb, still giving off radiation (which I believe wasn’t the incident, the incident was the drill hitting the pocket of energy) the Swan Station is still going to be built and in order to keep that pocket of energy sustained they have to push a button. Maybe this bomb explosion temporarily keeps the energy at bay and every 108 minutes it acts up again and has to be compressed again… how it is compressed, I don’t know
The tunnel that the drill was in was at least 70 meters deep, I think that was what Chang said… so it is rather far down.
Maybe I am naïve in thinking that they are all still alive. But hoping and thinking that they are still alive only seems fitting.
I feel that ever since what happens happened was a big part of Faraday’s whole talk about time travel, and Miles pointing out that Jack may be about to case the incident, leads all of them to go and start a major gun fight at the Swan… So, with the bomb going off and not really destroying the pocket of energy, with Radzinsky still alive, there is no place for Miles, Sawyer, Jack, Kate, Hugo, Jin, and who ever else is in 1977 to go. They can’t go back to Dharmaville, so what happens to them? I believe that they simply join up with the Others. They all, or who ever is left alive, cause I think that some of them could have died, are hanging out in the Temple and are the leaders of the Others. And for 30 something years they have been hanging out and giving orders to the Others.
When Locke first comes back to Richard in 2007 Locke asked if these were all the people, Richard said something like this is one group there is another at the Temple. And still, STILL, we haven’t seen the Temple.
This is a new theory entirely… but if they are still alive and actually know the events that are about to happen in the next 30 years, and actually make them happen. The Purge happens and Ben, in season 3 episode Cabin Fever said it was the decision of their (Others) “leaders’ ”… yes, I wrote it like “leaders’ ” and not “leader’s” cause for awhile I thought that the 815 survivors were the leaders of the others giving orders from the Temple. That there were more than one leader and what not.
But that seemed to be crushed when Richard said “Cause there can only be one leader at a time” So, to keep myself in believing that they are all alive I came to think this…
Elly was the leader, she is pregnant and since a side affect of radiation exposure causes problems with giving birth but whatever… she is kicked off the island to safely have Daniel and because of that, can never come back, why I don’t know.
When that happens, who ever is left alive from the Sawyer, Jack group and everyone one of them is appointed the head leader with all his advisors. And they hang out in the Temple so that they are never seen by themselves in 2004 when that happens.
I feel like that is why the others were building a runway, Juliet even claimed to not know why they were building on, so that the plane, flight 316 would have a safe place to land and they could also be the reason why Ben lets himself get captured by the net and everything like that.
Maybe I looked too much into things, and I tend to rant and write way too much at times like this… sorry to the long post, it is actually my first time writing something too so I’m new at all this posting theories thing.
