maybe the third group of people who aren't part of widmore or ben's people are working for jacob!!!
horace built jacob's cabin...maybe THAT lies in the shadow of the statue! the only thing we have ever actually heard jacob say, john locke heard..."HELLLLP MEEEE'...remember? and when locke tells ben that, ben shoots and kills him. as though it freaked him out to hear it. maybe the reason locke was actually murdered by ben is because the whole time this show has refered to jacob...maybe ben and richard and everyone have been keeping jacob at bay....and john locke communicates, if not is channeling, jacob right now. and maybe the 'war' taking place is to return the rightful leader, jacob, to the island. and this is why richard and ben are so uneasy about going to see jacob...because they are worried about what locke might be capable of. illana and caesar and all those people, also the people who abduct miles in the van, they work for jacob. and maybe those who have died off the island are the only ones that jacob can revive and channel through, considering that christian and ! john locke both died off island and when their bodies crashed there, they both lived on, and with an all knowing, very enlightened mentality. maybe jacob partly inhabits the dead who die off island because of the whole link i think there is with people who die on the island (i don't believe their are fully dead, i think that their voices are the whispers we have always heard in the trees).
either way, richard has apparently shown us he knows much less than we ever thought, and although he doesn't age, that may have something to do with him taking jacobs place or killing him in the first place.
what the ultimate meaning or point to any of this, what the island is that makes people so desperately want to fight for it, return to, etc, is still not so clear. but maybe in the finale when we are told more about jacob, that will all be cleared up.
(I read through several theories and above and as I did, these things began to hit me, so I'm posting them, although it greatly is due to the theories posted prior to mine).
