I haven't read all the theories and comments yet but I'll say this about the implications of how Season 5 ended. I think it was Faraday who said (and if it wasn't him, someone did say this) "this is our present." So think about this. Every time the FDW turned, there was no reset, each individuals life as it was at the time before the FDW turn continued in the new time they went to. Think about Locke and his broken leg in the well and after for example. Think about how as they jumped back in time, no one got younger nor did the bleeding stop or disappear. Their present life continued, illnesses, injuries and all. When Desmond turned the key in the Swan, it wasn't a reset button; it just blew the station up. Everyone's physical state of being continued as it was after all these events.
So there is only one way that Season 6 can start. The eye we saw open is Jack's, as it always has been. And now this time, he's opening it in the jungle by the beach in 2007, where Sun, Ben and Richard are ... they are joining their true timeline if you will. But again, remember, there is no reset button. Syaid will still be dying, as will Juliet. Can they be saved? Sure they can but not by a reset button, but by a human being.
Again, just so I'm clear, I don't think there is anyway that Oceanic 815 can land in LA in 2004 with all of what's happened not having happened. You can't erase the past. Whatever happened has happened. The plane crashed, Faraday, Charlotte, Charlie, Boone, et. al, they are all dead. That's where their present day life took them. It took them to their life's end. None of that can be changed.
I did read someone write at some point that the future can be changed. And this is absolutely true. For our characters, whatever happened, happened and now they will be in a position to continue on with their present, in their present day leveraging on the experiences and knowledge they have, to shape the future. Not a new future, but thee future. What's changed is how they will now shape the future as opposed to the path they would have gone down had Oceanic 815 not have crashed.
I was sceptical at first about the introduction of time travel because of the paradox it unavoidably presents. But I must say, with what we saw and with my theory above, assuming it plays out as I suggest, I think the writers handled the time travel aspect better than perhaps anyone has done before.
Bravo to all who have brought us LOST! I can't wait until Season 6!
