There is no Black and White in Lost. There never has been.
Two new faces in Lost, one wearing Black and the other wearing White. People submitting theories as to one may be God and the other the Devil. Lol.
One aspect of Lost that is superb (among many other aspects) is that many of the main characters have been introduced as being good/bad, and then as the show and characters have developed, as being not what we first imagined. Let´s have a quick look:
Jack: The Hero who loses his way.
Sawyer: The Conman who is the show´s first ´baddie´, goes through an incredible character arc to become a hero to many.
Charlie: The Junkie who, through personal sacrifice, gives the Losties a chance.
Desmond: Has a gun to Kate´s head when we first see him.
Locke: About as grey as you can get. (again another superb character arc.)
Juliet: An Other, who ends up helping our heroes.
Sayid: An Iraqi soldier. (no offense to anybody)
The list goes on.
Through 5 seasons and countless episodes, the (frankly amazing) writers of Lost have consistently shown there is no Black and White.
And now, we´re presented with Mr Black shirt guy, and Jacob, in white. Way too neat and easy. Lost is far more sophisticated than having the Black shirt guy as the baddie, and the White shirt guy as the goodie.
The one theory I will post is this:
Charles Widmore has said ´a war is coming´. He, and possibly Hawking, clearly have future information. Whether they have been to the future, or obtained the info from their HG Wells son Daniel Faraday is unclear. However, once again someone who has been portrayed as being a baddie may well turn out to be the complete opposite.
There is no Black and White in Lost, and with 17 episodes to go there are surely many more wonderful twists to come.
