My apologies to anyone else who has had this idea and kudos and all credit goes to you. I read most of the theories on here.
At the end of S02, the failsafe device gave Desmond the power of being special. We know he became a constant and indeed special after THIS incident. Daniel knew he was special and through time flashes made the point of contacting Desmond. Desmond's heroic act was going to save everyone but this wasn't meant to happen. I think this was a game changer in the loop we are seeing. This made him special. Perhaps Ellie did a similar act that made her special too. Maybe changing fate gives people an inner vision as to what is going on.
Desmond saw Jack years before and referred to him as 'brother'. Could this be a clue as to Jack is special too? Out of all the character meetings off island, why was this so important.
Let me reiterate.
We know Jack wants to find Jughead. We know everyone else is packing a spare pair of underwear over this. Jack wants to stop Oceanic from ever crashing. I feel this is his short term goal. He is going to change the game and I feel this will make him special. I think Jack is really confident about this and like Desmond he will prepare to sacrifice himself to do this as he feels doing this will make everything not happen (Desmond didn't know this). I think he will be by himself doing this and I think a lot of course correction people will try and talk him out of this (season 7 zombie cast).
I think Jack will come out of this as a better character for next season (lets face it, he has been pretty naff this season). He is starting to lack direction and this is needed.
This could also mean we think he will die this season like Desmond in season 2 but as he will have changed the game he won't really be dead.
