I came up with this the other day, and there could be some truth to it.
1) The baby is called Charlie so shares the same name as Charles Whidmore (obvious)
2) I know the baby was named after Charlie Pace, but that means there has been a total of three Charlies on Lost in total, a bit of a coincidence if you ask me.
3) If you watch 'The Variable', there is a moment where Eloise Hawking strokes baby Charlie's hair and seems really affectionate with him. This is significant for two reasons. From my recollection baby Charlie and 30-40 year old Charles Whitmore have similar hair styles and her affection is a result of her knowing that indeed baby Charlie is Charles Whidmore.
4) In ‘Dead is Dead’, Ben is just about to shoot Penny but then baby Charlie comes from out of the boat and he hesitates. Now, I mean Ben could have just hesitated seeming as he wouldn’t have wanted to shoot Penny right in front of her infant son, or he figured that baby Charlie was actually a young Charles Whidmore and freaked out just for enough time for Desmond to knock Ben down.
Now you might be thinking, how could Charles Whidmore be his own Grandfather, and how did he end up 50-60 years in the past? Well we all know time travel plays a huge part of Lost now, so it is very possible that somehow baby Charlie ends up going to the island as a young boy, then grows up to become Penny’s father.
How did he get to the island though, surely those who were on the island before the Dharma initiative are all descendents of the island’s original inhabitants? Well maybe, and this is where my theory can be flawed. However, I am sure that there were ways of getting to and from the island before the Dharma initiative came about; I mean Dharma had to find the island and get there somehow in the first place right?
It’s probably a stupid theory, but you never know.
*THIS IS ALL JUST A GUESS, I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FUTURE EPISODES OF LOST*
