Okay, after watching 'The Variable' the next night I woke up and had this crazy idea. I'm not too sure if it will make any sense whatsoever, but here we go.
The Incident, as I believe it is, is an outburst of electromagnetic energy just like Faraday said it was going to be. The thing about it, though, is that instead of killing everyone on the island, it sends everyone off the island, including the others. Bear with me for some more on this thought.
If everyone is sent off the island, that means someone one must figure out how to get back on the island. Eloise with her son's journal knows of the Lamp post and the others take it over. They figure out how to get back to the island before the Dharma Initiative (DI) does too much damage to the island. When they take it over, Eloise stays at the Lamp post in case more people need to be recruited.
What about the DI, though. So, they evacuate the families and a few scientists, including Radzinsky. After the incident when everyone is taken off the island, the DI that are left on the island are also sent off the island, but already know how to get on a sub to get back to the island. While the others are missing, the DI finish the Swan Station and create a way to hold back the electromagnetic anomaly.
The Purge is what the others do to the DI after their outrage about the Incident. This allows the others to stop what the DI from ever repeating what they did to the Island.
If everyone is off the island, what about the Losties, Richard and Jacob. Well, they are somehow protected from the electromagnetic outbreak. Either they are in the Temple together, or they are all sent to a different time still on the Island. That keeps them there but allows the DI to have time alone.
That's about it on the theory. Not too sure if this will hold up. Post and let me know what you guys think about this and I am definitely open to ideas about this theory. Let me know if you can patch up some holes or explain things better.
